Interested in hosting international students?
We want to hear from you!
Did you know that over 2,000 international students study and do research in Salt Lake City? Students represent over 110 different countries with the majority coming from China, India, and the Republic of Korea.
University of Utah International Students
This student body makes up a diverse population with whom to exchange ideas and make new friends. However, an alarmingly high number of international students never get to visit an American home even if they have been studying in the United States for years.
In keeping with UCCD's mission of Citizen Diplomacy, we are considering giving international students in Utah an opportunity to experience Home Hospitality.
What you would offer:
- One evening during a semester (fall or spring)
- Transportation to and from your home
- Dinner
- The opportunity to share your customs and culture
Benefits include:
- Learn about a new culture
- Build international friendships
- Create lifetime memories
If you are interested in opening your home and making one day extraordinary for you, your family, and a student from abroad, simply reply to this email with YES. Your answer will confirm (or not) your interest in hosting global youth. If this unique opportunity generates enough interest, we will provide our Home Hosts with a list of hosting opportunities in the fall.
Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you! |

Jessica Ward: Hometown Diplomat
(From L to R) Donna Vogel, David & Karma Ward, Jessica Ward,
Zoe Cunniff and her daughter, Laura Dupuy
Salt Lake City - On June 19, Jessica Ward traveled to Utah in the context of the Secretary of State's Hometown Diplomats Program. In the former Secretary Powell's message he said, "The Department's great people can explain best why Americans should care about what happens around the world. Foreign Service and Civil Service personnel have fascinating stories to tell about their careers. [...] They can explain what the State Department does, how foreign policy affects Americans' lives, why we need more resources to do our jobs, and how interested people can join our team. Reaching out to the public in this way puts a face on foreign policy."
Ward is one of the many faces of foreign policy. She just completed her first assignment as an Office Management Specialist in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and is about to continue her long and exciting career with the U.S. Department of State in Vienna, Austria. Continue reading...

The Globetrotter: BELGIUM
|
|
- French and Dutch (Flemish) are Belgium's primary languages.
- French dominates in southern areas and Brussels; Dutch is more prominent in the north.
- World War II's famous Battle of the Bulge was fought in Bastogne and central Belgium.
- All students learn at least two foreign languages.
- Many Belgians like to play a game called boules, a form of lawn bowling.
