Free Admission to Active Duty Military
Memorial Day to Labor Day
The Great Lakes Children's Museum voluntarily participates in a program coordinated by the National Endowment for the Arts that provides free admission to active duty military throughout the summer. This is our third year of joining over 1500 other museums across the nation to support military families. We are pleased to be able to give them some hands-on learning and fun in Northern Micigan.
The military ID holder plus up to five family members receive free admission. For a description of the program and a list of all participating museums, click here. |
State Theatre - Museum Movie

June Toddler Time Schedule
Fridays, 10 am to noon (and Wednesdays starting 6/20)
Toddler Time is offered Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm. It is an opportunity for toddlers to interact with each other and learn through a variety of activities and experiences. Toddler Time encourages toddlers' natural curiosity, enhances fine and gross motor skills, guides appropriate social behaviors, and facilitates essential cognitive growth. Most importantly, it's fun! Toddler Time is included with the price of admission or the cost of your annual membership.
Beginning the week of June 18, through the end of summer, Toddler Time will be offered on both Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to noon.
Bottle Bowling, June 8
Set 'em up and knock 'em down. Children will bowl using recycled plastic bottles as pins and a variety of lightweight balls.
Feed the Animals, June 15
Grab that bucket! The animals are getting hungry. What will you feed them? Children will pretend to feed cardboard farm animals and gather colorful chicken eggs in a basket.
Stamp-O-Rama, June 20 and 22
Create your own pictures with stamps made from fruits and veggies. (store bought stamps too.) Paint and ink are wonderfully washable.
Tents and Tunnels, June 27 and 29

Summer Step-Up Blood Drive
Tuesday, June 26, 9 am to 1 pm
Former First Lady Barbara Bush once said: "Some people give time, some money, some their skills and connections, some literally give their life's blood. But everyone has something to give."
During the summer months, blood supplies run short. We are partnering with Michigan Blood to secure donations that will help ensure that Northern Michigan has an adequate blood supply this summer. The blood drive will be set up in the Great Lakes Activity Room from 9 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, June 26. Michigan Blood will generously donate $10 to the Museum for everyone who tries to donate blood. Donors age 17 and up may donate. Sixteen-year-olds may donate with their parent's permsission. ID is required.
Appointments are preferred. To schedule an appointment contact Holly or Joshua at (231) 935-3030 or Holly at hsika@miblood.org.
There will be no InterActive Story Time or opportunity to have snacks in the Museum during our Blood Drive. |
