What's more fun than a bowl of fresh popcorn?
Coming out to the Great Lakes Children's Museum for a family night of popcorn fun!
Experience popcorn like you never have before! There will be games, contests, crafts, and more. We'll have a carnival-style popcorn popper on hand to add to the festivities. Pop In and Play! Oh yes...you get to eat some, too.
As with all Member Nights, there will be complimentary refreshments. Also, each member child may bring a guest free of charge. This is a members-only event. However, you can renew or take out a membership the night of the event. |

Funday Sunday - Mardi Gras
February 12 - Programs offered at 1:30 and 2:30
We continue our cross-cultural exploration with an age-appropriate Mardi Gras experience. Karen McCarthy, French teacher from the Pathfinder School, will lead songs and talk about some the heritage of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We'll have a pretend parade in the Museum with beads and doubloons. Children and families will be able to make a fancy mask-Mardi Gras style. |

Complete the Discovery Center Online Survey
Have a chance to win a schooner cruise and help plan for the Discovery Center's future. Members and friends of the Great Lakes Children's Museum, we'd love to have your input, not only as it applies to us, but as it applies to the entire Discovery Center campus.
The survey should take less than ten minutes to complete and will give us valuable insights. Everyone who participates will be entered in a drawing for a free sail for two on the schooner, Madeline, pictured here.

Museum Movie at the State - Rango
Saturday February 11, 10 am
On Saturday, February 11, we continue our partnership with our friends at the State Theatre. Each month, we offer a short entertaining and informative video before the 25 ¢ Saturday Kids Matinee. In February we'll open for the animated feature Rango with a special short of compiled video from animal cams, tracking the activity of animals from their point of view, including from behind the ears of a nine-banded armadillo in the desert southwest.
Made possible through the NPR radio program Science Friday and Interlochen Public Radio. Movie goers who bring a ticket stub to the Great Lakes Children's Museum on February 11 will get half off the price of admission. (This discount is available only on the same day as the movie.) |

February Toddler Time Schedule
Fridays, 10 am to noon
Toddler Time is offered Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm. It is an opportunity for toddlers to interact with each other and learn through a variety of activities and experiences. Toddler Time encourages toddlers' natural curiosity, enhances fine and gross motor skills, guides appropriate social behaviors, and facilitates essential cognitive growth. Most importantly, it's fun! Toddler Time is included with the price of admission or the cost of your annual membership.
Lots of Blocks, February 3
Blocks, blocks, and more blocks to build with and explore. How high can you stack 'em?
Valentine's Day Fun, February 10
Hearts, flowers, ribbons, and paper lace! An extravaganza of materials of different colors and textures will be provided for children to explore and create their own Valentine's Day collage or card to take home.
Beach Party, February 17
Bring a little Summer back with some indoor sand play.
Grocery Store, February 24

It's Okay to be Different, by Todd Parr, February 1
It's okay to help a squirrel collect nuts. Find out what else is different and okay by listening to this story.
Memoirs of a Goldfish
by Devin Scillian, February 8
"Day One: I swam around my bowl. Day Two: I swam around my bowl. Twice." That's how the goldfish's diary begins, but it doesn't stay boring for long. Soon his bowl is overcrowded with stuff and other creatures, and he has to stake his claim on "his tank."
My Little Cabin, by Alice Palace, February 15
Marvin dreams of what it would be like to live like an eagle, a fish, a bear, and other assorted "up north" woodland creatures.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, by Bill Martin Jr., February 22
All the letters in the alphabet try to meet at the top of the coconut tree. "Chicka chicka boom boom! Will there be enough room?"
If You Give A Moose A Muffin, by Laura Numeroff, February 29
If a big hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. But if you give a moose a muffin, what else is he going to ask for?
InterActive StoryTime is underwritten through a generous Early Childhood Reading Grant from the Target Foundation. |
The software and service that delivers our newsletter is made possible, without cost, through Constant Contact's Care4Kids program (see below) and the sponsorship of Hanna Bistro in downtown Traverse City. |
