-ADODI - THE SIX PRINCIPLES
|
SPIRITUALLY GUIDED We seek guidance to
become grounded in the Divine Energy that unites
and centers all our spirits.
HONESTY, OPENNESS AND CLARITY We communicate thoughts and feelings in a sincere and concise manner. This principle also speaks to the need for developing good listening skills as well as awareness of our body language.
SENSITIVITY TO FEELINGS We respectfully acknowledge another person's feelings or point of view with or without necessarily agreeing with it.
CAREFRONTING We reach out to support and assist each other in a caring and effective manner.
RESOLUTION We establish a realistic sense of closure of issues pertaining to our individual and collective purpose.
THE FIVE A's: ACKNOWLEDGE, APPRECIATE, AFFIRM, ACCEPT, ACHÉ We believe these five A's are to be used whenever we respond to each other for they enhance the development of the spirit. It should be noted thatACHÉ is the concept of power and empowering that reinforces the other four A's and is the key dynamic by which this sixth principle functions.

A Collage of Pics From The 4th Annual ADODI NY Sea Tea Boat Ride ADODI New York would
like to take this opportunity to thank all the bruthaz (and sistahs)
who came out and supported our 4th time hosting a boat ride by and for
the Black same gender loving community.Once again, the Sea Tea Boat Ride was a freakin' awesome success! We SOLD OUT all our tickets and had 300+ folks onboard!!!!!One
of the things we are proud of everyyear when we do this event is the diversity among the bruthaz
represented on the boat. The ages, for example, ranged from bruthaz in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.
|
In the process of having FUN on the boat we hope that a number of you have taken home and looked over our palm cards that were widely distributed throughout
the boat. We hope to see a number of you swing by our monthly 2nd
Saturday gatherings where you don't have to wait another year to see
some familar faces from the boat ride experience and at the same time forge new relationships.
|
Our next 2nd Saturday gathering is this Saturday coming, July 11th, 2009 @ 4PM. We hope to see you there. We'll be screening the new Black SGL film FINDING ME. For those of you who were there or weren't there, here are some quotes from bruthaz experiences of the event: "Please thank the planning committee for creating such a wonderful evening; the planets were aligned, the weather was perfect and the gathering of men was FAB U LOUS. I had a ball; somehow the tug boat at 20 bucks always surpasses the 75 bucks of the White Party on the Spirit (boat ride). I always like to support our community, BUT I always get the best vibe with my brothers back down here on earth. Much love, A. P.S. > It's great to see that our gay brothers over 40 are looking better than our straight brothers over 40. NOW THAT IS FIERCE!" +++++++
"Just wanted to extend another great job on the boat ride. It was a great time for me and (I'm) really glad I could celebrate my anniversary on a boat. I moved to NYC seven years ago yesterday. I'll make sure to stop by Saturday. Always Romeo" The collage of pics below represents only a handful of bruthaz on the Sea Tea.

REFLECTIONS: 20th Annual Tribute To Our Ancestors of the Middle Passage Saturday, June 13th, 2009
 Yemayá
Yemayá is the Mother
of the Seven Seas, the Santeria Orisha of fertility and motherhood. She offers
protection to women. She is likened to the patron saints Lady of Regla, and
Mary, Star of the Sea.
According to legend,
Yemayá originated in Egypt as the Goddess Isis. It is thought by some that the
Nubian slaves who returned to different parts of Africa may have brought Isis
with them under the new name of Yemayá.
Myth has it that
Yemayá gave birth to the 14 Yoruban Goddesses and Gods. When her uterine waters
broke, it caused a great flood creating the oceans. The first human man and
woman were borne from her womb.
++++++++++
Bruthaz,Last month (June 13th, 2009) ADODI New York commenced with our REMEMBRANCE: Celebrating the Ancestors event. The weather was quite poor with rain (as was most of June) and, to be honest, our turnout wasn't as great as we expected. However, as the saying goes, you work with those who show up. We had a really nice and intimate time as we celebrated those that have gone before us.
Afterward, brutha Delmar, brutha Zanthony, brutha Raphael and brutha ROD (aka "BIG ROD") traveled down to the edge point of south Brooklyn... destination: CONEY ISLAND!!!!!
We got there a little late and didn't see the masses of African folk offering fruits to the ancestors at the ocean, but we were RIGHT ON TIME to pay our own respects to our African ancestors; for that, there is NEVER a late or wrong time.
Below is a RELFECTION of pictures taken at Coney Island. All photography courtesy of and Copyright © 2009 ROD PATRICK RISBROOK
Also, Brutha Ocean Morisset took some most EXCELLENT shots of the event. You can check out those beauitiful black & white stills at his spot
Aché!

Wednesday, July 15th - Sunday, July 19th, 2009
Greetings From The Brotherhood Of ADODI:
We invite all same gender loving men of African heritage to join us in the gathering for our 23rd Annual ADODI Retreat:
"ADODI Wholeness: Lives of Power and Possibilities" Wednesday, July 15th - Sunday, July 19th, 2009 At The White Eagle Conference Center in Hamilton NY
"ADODI Wholeness: Lives of Power and
Possibilities" is about enriching how we live our best, whole self. One decision,
one action at a time. As SGL (same gender loving) African
American men, our caring makes us human, and our crafts and communities make us
whole. During the retreat we will explore the power each of us possesses, and
how we share it with others, the culture we continue to build with our many
gifts, and the communities we strengthen, nurturing the bonds of possibilities in
the many ways we do.
Our three sub-themes are Power, Culture
and Community. The sub-themes will be the theme for one of each of our three
full retreat days: Thursday: PowerFriday: CultureSaturday: Community
We hope that you can join us for what
will undoubtedly be a powerful and memorable experience. One that we hope will
inspire new possibilities.
