FREEDOM FIGHTERS FOR AMERICA:
ADODI SALUTES SAME GENDER LOVING
 MALE VETERANS OF COLOR
Durell (soldier head shot)

This month, ADODI New York salutes same gender loving veterans and soldiers of color. Blacks, as well as Native Americans, Latinos, and Asians-have served as under appreciated heroes in nearly every war and countless "unofficial" skirmishes and conflicts throughout the history of our nation in support of freedom. The same can be said of same gender loving people who have served their country quietly and with distinction. Myth has it that these people are unfit to serve. Or that their service will inevitably be cut short by misconduct. Or that they are never among the best, and can't be counted on.

But the truth tells us otherwise...

Durell (military tank).jpg

Lesbian, transgendered, bisexual and gay people of color have always answered the nation's call to military service.

Indeed, the lives of these soldiers--these freedom fighters-highlight a troubling story of profound contradictions of a country still in the throes of racism and homophobia and the need to mobilize and support their need for civil rights.

Our armed forces have always been stronger and have always been better prepared when these Freedom Fighters serve.  And when they serve-in spite of the odds--we all win.

Their stories will move any listener, especially those who owe their lives to them that serve. Join us in this inspirational and uniquely personal tribute!

Discussion Questions

- Why did we join the armed forces? What is life like in the
  service?

- What? An SGLPOC soldier on film?

- Who was Major Alan G. Rogers? Why is he important?

- DADT ("Don't Ask, Don't Tell"). What has changed? What is
  changing?

- What is AVER? BVSJ? Do they do anything for us?

- What is Obama's pledge to gay soldiers? For real?
