in memory of
JACK FLYNN
Smiling snakes, friendly fish, and technicolor cats~ these are just a few creatures in Jack Flynn's menagerie. Jack's wood sculptures are a celebration of color, made expressly to share his joy of life, art, and humor.
After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, Jack came home to study oil painting at the Columbus College of Art and Design. His paintings took on three-dimensional forms after a trip to the Southwestern states, where he first saw Native American carvings of snakes. The bold patterns and vibrant colors of the Southwestern artwork inspired Jack to try his hand at carving wood & painting in his own style. It wasn't long before Jack had a studio full of brightly colored and patterned fish, frogs, snakes, turtles, cats and other carved creatures.
Each of Jack's one-of-a-kind critters are painted with animated features and whimsical motifs. His work always has a sense of humor and fun- it's no wonder that Jack was also a successful magazine cartoonist for over 40 years. His work was shown in galleries, shops, and craft fairs throughout the United States, and most importantly, has brought happiness and color into homes around the world.
We will miss Jack, but each of us are glad we have a piece of his whimsical woodcarvings to always remember him by~ he'll continue to bring a smile to our faces and laughter to our homes. |
