Hello Alaska,
With two weeks down and one to go, we have a total of 116 survey takers. Although that exceeds the average response rate, I think we can do better! I promise that this is the last reminder, but if you haven't done so, please help us gather some data by taking our survey. It should only take a couple of minutes and just for completing this bad boy, you are entered to win one of several nice prizes, which include an overnight stay (with dinner and breakfast) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (what a lovely gift if you can't use it yourself) in Anchorage, a $50 gift certificate to either the Glacier Brewhouse, or Orso restaurants (ditto) and a few $25 Kaladi Brothers gift cards. The survey will be shut down next Monday and I will report results next week.

The snow is receding and the subtle aroma of small presents left behind by our furry friends is beginning to permeate the air. Ah, spring time in Alaska! With it we feel a sense of renewal and increased energy to apply ourselves to the tasks that tend to pop up this time of year. However, fear not if your energy miraculously disappears when you walk in the door at night and fails to re-emerge in order to complete necessary work on weekends. Holding down the couch is also a very important job and there are local businesses near you, ready to spring clean, landscape, sell you a storage building, or build you a new deck for those impending barbeques. Simply visit www.buyalaska.com to find a company in your neck of the woods to help you preserve your downtime.
Another sure sign of spring is the appearance of the Garden Snaps map, free at a variety of locations that provide for your spring and summer planting and gardening needs. This handy little directory maps farmers markets, garden centers, landscaping supply companies, greenhouses and nurseries, in communities all over the state, including the Valley, Fairbanks, Delta, North Pole, Big Lake, the Kenai Peninsula, Eagle River and Anchorage among others.
Please visit one of the participating businesses to pick up your own copy, but not all may be open quite yet. Below is a list of where you can get the maps right now. Garden Snaps will also be handing out maps at the Sears Mall Annual Garden Show on April 16th and other trade shows around the state during the month of April. The Peninsula should have their copies by mid-April.

The Juneau Economic Development Council has begun preparations for the 2nd Annual Juneau Maritime Festival, scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at Marine Park and around the downtown waterfront.
Festival's organizing team will expand the event this year in the hope of building on last year's success. Another gorgeous day will help!
Returning events include:
- The Coast Guard's helicopter rescue demonstration
- The seafood marinade contest
- Vessel tours
- Exhibit and sales booths
- Entertainment throughout the event, and lots of activities for kids
One notable change will be an increase of on-site food options. A community-wide event of this nature requires extensive collaboration, participation and financial support. JEDC invites you to consider the variety of ways in which you can get involved by visiting www.juneaumaritimefestival.org and becoming a sponsor or registering as an exhibitor.
