The BCM Challenge: Inside-Out
In dedication to his younger brother, Greg, who died at eighteen months, Robert Weitzel has challenged himself to solo kayak and cycle around Lake Superior. He is calling his challenge "Soloing Superior Inside-Out".
In Robert's words, "Greg never got the chance to grow up and explore the wild places...to share adventures with his older brother or to have a solo of his own. I also want to dedicate my effort to Big City Mountaineers and their dedication to under-served youth by providing these young people with a second critical chance to grow...to grow confident...to grow strong...to grow in ways they could not have imagined from the limited vista of the streets on which they live...in essence to grow up."
Please support Robert in his journey by donating to his Challenge Campaign! Robert's goal...with your help...is to raise $5000, enough to give 15 young people a summer of life-changing wilderness adventures.

Summit for Someone Spotlight
Two Mt. Whitney Teams Reach Summit!
The first climbers of the 2012 Summit for Someone program return in triumph! In April, two different teams of SFS climbers summited Mt. Whitney in California, the tallest peak in the contiguous U.S. thereby raising $50,000 for our programs. Thank you to all of the Whitney climbers and to all the other climbers who continue to fundraise for their upcoming climbs. Good luck to all!
With only a handful of Summit for Someone spots remaining, this is the time to commit to the challenge of a lifetime. With great climbs like the Grand Teton and Mt. Rainier throughout the summer and into September, there is still plenty of time to train and raise funds for your climb. Don't you need a new epic profile picture?
Contact Darin for more details on the remaining climb spots. | |
New Support from BCM Sponsors!
A special thanks goes out to Polartec, Eddie Bauer's First Ascent, Keen, Columbia, Sorel and The Clymb for their recent support of BCM kids through sponsorship participation!
Thanks to Polartec for their generous $10K contribution in support of our programs and for providing a custom BCM edition fleece for every youth (and volunteer!) on all of our expeditions this summer. Recipients will be able to take home their fleeces as a momento of their journey.
Thank you to First Ascent for driving our climbers to fundraising success by providing Guide Down jackets to every climber that raises $1K over their fundraising goal. Each jacket awarded will allow two more kids to experience a summer of BCM programming.
|
Keen has generously provided 200 free shoe cards to our fundraising volunteers and climbers! This incentive will ensure that more lives are changed this summer.
Last week, The Clymb, Columbia and Sorel joined together to get more under-served youth on BCM expeditions. Through a special two day promotion on The Clymb's website, this group raised nearly $9K and created awareness for our work to the one million plus Clymb members. Thank you to all involved!

BCM Moves Offices!
BCM will be doubling the number of youth we impact through transformative wilderness mentoring experiences this summer and to accommodate our growth, our headquarters will be moving to a new location! On April 30th 2012, BCM opened it's doors at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, CO! This improved space will accomodate our substantial program growth in 2012 and will help us to serve and support our kids more efficiently and effectively. Plus, with our in-house climbing wall, we'll be surely having lots of fun!
If you're are in the area, come visit us!
