Working to Improve the Lives of Women with Obstetric Fistula

DGHI Assistant Professor Melissa Watt and DGHI Doctoral Scholar Sarah Wilson hosted a workshop in Moshi, Tanzania last week in which they shared new research on the psychological and social issues faced by women with obstetric fistula. Watt and Wilson blogged about the workshop's ability to spark meaningful discussion among Tanzanian health workers that they hope will lead to action on how to better care for these suffering women.

DGHI-supported Dissertation Receives National Award

Zack Brown, a Duke alumnus in the Nicholas School of the Environment, is the 2012 recipient of the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award given by the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association. Brown studied the ways in which economics can contribute to major challenges of implementing malaria control programs. He now works as an environmental economist in Paris but is continuing to collaborate with DGHI and partners on a related project in East Africa.

Student-led Research in Global Health Is Published

Thesis research by Master of Science in Global Health graduate Andria Rusk, published in the Malaria Journal, found that medicine retailers in western Kenya may not dispense the appropriate anti-malarial treatment to patients despite knowing the recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

DGHI Doctoral Scholar Chris Paul co-authored a report published in Transatlantic Academy Paper Series that evaluates the impacts of global climate change and donor assistance on economic development in food security in Africa.
