We are delighted to welcome back to campus today (Sept 3), Dr. John Bartlett, who returns from Tanzania to take up his role as Associate Director of Research for the Duke Global Health Institute.

This newsletter also highlights  two other new Duke faculty members who have great interest in global health: Dr. Subhrendu Pattanayak at the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy, and Dr. Augustus John Rush at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore.  

We also welcome to campus this week Dr. Mark Ottenweller, Global AIDS Coordinator for HOPE Worldwide who will give the first University Seminar on Global Health this year on Sept. 3 at 4:30.  Dr. Ottenweller is the first of 10 exciting speakers presenting at the year-long University Seminar on Global Health series.  If you have not already seen the lineup, we invite you to visit our website for details at www.globalhealth.duke.edu/seminars.

Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Welcomes Augustus John Rush
Dr. Augustus John rush has joined the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore as Vice Dean of Clinical Sciences.  He was previously professor and vice chair in the department of clinical Sciences at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.  Read more>>

NEW: Lloyd Foundation Provides Grants for HIV/AIDS Research

NIH/Fogarty International Clinical Research Fellows (ICRF) Program: Deadline: Dec. 5 2008
This new one year clinical research training program is open to persons of any country in either post-residency clinical fellowships or in other health-related post-doctoral programs. The ICRF Program supports one year of mentored clinical research only in a developing country setting.  Applicants for the fellowship must develop a collaborative research proposal with an eligible institution overseas.  Thirty-six sites were pre-approved as suitable for ICRF in a site competition completed in 2008, including the Duke-KCMC partnership in Moshi, TZ.

ONLINE GLOBAL HEALTH RESOURCE

WHO Global Health Atlas  

The World Health Organization's Communicable Disease Global Atlas brings together for analysis and comparison standardized data and statistics for infectious diseases at country, regional, and global levels.

The atlas allows users to browse, view, query, and search the contents of the WHO's Communicable Disease global database and output the data in reports, charts and maps.  The site also provides access to the public domain static maps and related documents, publications and statistics on infectious diseases.
