Greetings!
HIV/AIDS
is in the news, and so are Duke faculty. Recent coverage of the PEPFAR bill in
the Washington Post included a quote from Michael
Merson, and Barton Haynes' research about how quickly the HIV
virus affects the immune system has received coverage in the New York Times and other papers. Duke
faculty and students are also preparing for presentations at the annual
International AIDS Conference in Mexico
City next week. Special kudos to Chelsea Castellano, a
Duke medical student who has been asked to give an oral presentation on
research done with Dr. Charles Hicks during her third-year research project
(see first article below).
In this
newsletter we also bring to your attention several applications and calls for
abstracts with quickly approaching deadlines, including opportunities for Duke
faculty to become involved in DukeEngage projects, the SSRI Faculty Fellows
Seminar, or the CFAR Annual Retreat in September.
Beginning
next week, we will resume our weekly schedule for this newsletter. If you have
articles or announcements you would like included, please contact Marsha Green ( marsha.green@duke.edu).
