Greetings!
We hope
you were able to attend last night's inaugural global health lecture by Paul
Farmer. If not, we invite you to read a brief article about it on our website.
In addition, the news section of this newsletter has information about an
exciting new collaboration between CHAVI and the International AIDS Vaccine
Initiative, an essay by a Duke medical student about global health ethics, and
a short report on some of the summer research and service efforts being funded
by the Duke Global Health Institute this summer. In honor of Earth Day (April
22), we also offer a short article on the recent talk given to the 15-501
Global Health Dinner Club (a joint UNC/Duke effort) by Dean Chameides of Duke's
Nicholas School of the Environment and Jason
West, of UNC, about health and the environment.
Although the end of the academic term is fast approaching, the calendar of
events is still full for global health related activities, including the visit
by Dr. Tachi Yamada, President of the Global Health Program of the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation on April 28. And we continue to list opportunities for
funding, calls for abstracts and educational opportunities as we become aware
of them.
As always, if you know of events or opportunities that should be listed in this
newsletter, please let us know by emailing marsha.green@duke.edu.
