Greetings!
The
remainder of February brings many opportunities for those involved in global
health. From an online discussion about Children's Health on February 13, to a
discussion about the Kilimanjaro AIDS program on February 14, to a Blue Jean Ball on Feb 16 and a fascinating
discussion about Building Schools in Kenya on February 20, there is
plenty to look forward to. More details about each of these items are in our
upcoming events listing at the end of this newsletter.
In
addition, we highlight in this newsletter work done by Duke medical students to
bring health care to rural North Carolina, and
news of the ongoing concern at Duke about the violence in Kenya and its long-term effects.
As always,
if you have ideas of other events or opportunities that we should highlight in
our newsletter, please email them to marsha.green@duke.edu.

ONLINE RESOURCE
Each week
we highlight an online resource of interest to people working in global health.
This week
we bring your attention to the December talk about climate change by Dr.
Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization.
According
to Chan, the nature of climate change during this century is likely to go
beyond human experience, with developing countries being hit first and hardest.
Climate change could vastly increase the already huge imbalance in health
outcomes that the Millennium Development Goals were designed to address, she said
at the 2007 David E. Barmes Global Health Lecture at the National Institutes of
Health
Her talk
was titled "Climate Change and Health: Preparing for Unprecedented
Challenges." The full
text is and a videocast
of the talk are available online.
