Greetings!

Greetings!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. understood health disparities as a form of injustice. As Duke takes this week to celebrate King's life and legacy, we invite you to join in one of the many ways the Duke community is working to bring about more justice in health for people in our own community and across the world. These activities range from packing meals for STOP HUNGER on January 23, to attending the keynote talk to be given by Uwe Reinhard at the PKU-UNC Global Health Forum: Health Crises and Disparities: Working Together on Solutions on January 30.  Every bit of action and knowledge helps.

We hope this newsletter continues to help you stay abreast of global health-related activities and opportunities. If you have news that you would like included, please email it to marsha.green@duke.edu.

We are also continuing to solicit feedback and comments on our new website (www.globalhealth.duke.edu). Please send comments and suggestions to marsha.green@duke.edu.

Online Resource

Each week we highlight an online resource for global health. This week we highlight Environmental Research Letters: The open-access journal for environmental science.

The latest journal Environmental Research Letters issue has a special focus on Environmental Justice and Health Internationally. All articles on this topic are free to download. As the editorial introducing the issue says, "It is now commonly understood that much of the worldwide burden of environmental ill health falls disproportionately on poorer peoples There is also substantial evidence that much environmental damage internationally is the result of the actions of richer nations or richer groups within nations-with impacts on poorer nations and poorer groups within nations. It is becoming clear also that poorer peoples internationally experience multiple environmental harms, and that these may have a cumulative effect. ... Environmental justice is a concept that links the environmental health science documenting these harms, to debates around rights, justice and equity.
