Greetings!

The Duke Global Health Institute is pleased to announce the return of the University Seminar on Global Health lecture series, co-sponsored by the Institute and the Duke University Center for International Studies.

The first lecture in the series will be given by Majid Ezzati, of the Harvard School of Public Health on November 1. His research is centered around understanding the determinants of, and risk factors for, health and disease at the population level, especially as they change through technological innovation and technology management.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 4-5:30 in the Breedlove Room of Perkins Library at Duke.

This is just one of the many exciting events and opportunities happening in global health on the Duke Campus. The remainder of this e-newsletter offers a quick list of other upcoming events and opportunities both locally and farther afield.

If you have additional events or opportunities you would like added to our website or newsletter, please let us know by emailing marsha.green@duke.edu or contacting us through our website at http://globalhealth.duke.edu.

Global Health Resource

Each week, we introduce our readers to another online resource. This week, we're highlighting the revamped Carolina for Kibera website.

The Duke Global Health Institute is collaborating with Carolina for Kibera to help place volunteer Duke students in CFK's core programs and initiatives. These opportunities will include a 1-month rotation for medical students and residents at the Tabitha Medical Clinic, a community-based medical clinic that provides healthcare in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya.

Carolina for Kibera is an international, nongovernmental organization based in the Kibera. In the United States, CFK is a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation and is an affiliated entity and program of UNC-CH, based at the Center for Global Initiatives.
