Greetings!
As you are aware, the ABNLP Annual General Meeting was held this past week. We looked at the year gone by and acknowledged the accomplishments the ABNLP had through this past year. Some of those included: securing an office for the ABNLP with dedicated phone answering (www.silentpartner.com.au <http://www.silentpartner.com.au> ), a successful joint Conference with 143 delegates with International speakers, a new professional website, online bookings for ABNLP events, online credit card processing, a new Sydney Members Forum format, tripled the number of Clinical Members, the Australasian NLP Association members were transferred to the ABNLP, we successfully launched the new Membership Criteria for Clinical and Trainer members that came into effect at the 2007 AGM, hired a dedicated Membership Coordinator to process new and renewal memberships one day per month, the Victoria branch of the ABNLP has over doubled their Membership numbers and are currently looking for a new venue for their Monthly breakfast meetings as they've officially outgrown it. What a year!
As the incoming Chairperson, I would like to thank the 2007-08 Board of Management for all of their hard work and dedication through the year. Gordon Young, thank you for helping to make all of this a reality, and good luck in your personal endeavours. Pedro Diaz, Nick Cownie and Janine Frasier, all outgoing board members, thank you for all of your work this past year. Returning board members - Russ Ayres, Fiona Godfrey, Carol Fox and Leyla Banaei - lets do it all again this year, and have even more fun doing it! And finally, a thank you to Lyndall Briggs and Trudy Wilson whose duration on the Board of Management didn't span through the entire year for personal reasons. Your support is appreciated and we thank you for the investment of time and energy you have spent with the Board this past year.
I am very excited to be the new Chairperson for the ABNLP, and I know great things are ahead for this amazing organisation. I'd like to tell you a little about myself so you can get to know me as a person, not just as words on your computer screen each month. I was trained in NLP in 1998, making this my tenth official year in NLP, however my mother first trained in NLP when I was 10, so in essence I have grown up with this technology most of my life. I am American by birth, and hold dual citizenship having relocated to Sydney in 1986. I have completed my undergrad degrees in Psychology and Communication and my Masters Degree in Adult Education. Currently, I am about 18 months from completing my Doctorate in Psychology through the University of Southern California. As a profession, I train NLP and have a private practice where I call myself an "NLP Therapist". Additionally I am a Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Hypnotherapist. I have been doing this line of work now fulltime for 8 years. I hold Clinical membership with the ACA and the ABNLP. Prior to my NLP career I worked in Human Resource Management and Operations Management for a number of years. I believe my corporate experience assists me in many aspects of my personal and professional lives. I love learning and growing. In fact, I believe that life is about just that - an experience of learning and growing. One thing that I do attempt to do is walk my talk, and when I notice the contrary (like everyone does), I do my best to learn and grow from it. I am a believer that we are all doing the best we can in every moment and that we are just humans, mistakes are allowed. I use NLP everyday in my own life - for me. I also think that it is important for the members of the ABNLP to know these three beliefs I have about myself: 1) I am very ambitious 2) I believe anything can happen if there is a strong intention with action, and 3) I believe I am very dependable, honest, integral and trustworthy - my word is my bond.
I tell you these things about myself for a purpose. I want you to know who is in front of the ABNLP. It is my intention to run a very transparent ABNLP. That is, no hidden agendas, no intentional personal gains and little politics. I feel the NLP community in Australia needs to be healed, and I hope to begin that process this year with your new Leadership team. Let me tell you some of the objectives I have for the next year:
1) Further develop the ABNLP community by reaching out to NLP Training organisations and getting them & their students involved.
2) Begin to heal some of the 'cracks' in the Australian NLP community by building trust and rapport with each other.
3) Increase membership numbers and membership participation at ABNLP activities.
4) Build more benefits for members to create more of a reason to belong.
5) Continue to ensure our standards for membership remain high and keep informed of the ACA's movements with lobbying Government for Health benefits.
6) Have fun and grow personally and professionally with the other Leadership Team members and ABNLP members at large (I think this is important)
Overall, I want the ABNLP to grow, stabilise, prosper and be an organisation that every NLPer in Australia wants to be involved in. I believe the new Leadership Team is a great one to continue these goals. Let me introduce you to your new ABNLP Leadership Team:
Vice Chairperson - Fiona Godfrey
Treasurer - Sean Steel (it wasn't until the AGM that I realised that a treasurer named Steel is quite humorous!)
Secretary - Catherine Tarbox (to be appointed at the next Board meeting)
Board Members - Carol Fox (Vic), Leyla Banaei, Emma McDermott, Simon Fishburn and Russ Ayres.
Congratulations to the new Leadership team, I look forward to working with you this year. We are going to do some amazing things!
Each month in this NLP Observer I will brief the ABNLP members on the projects we are working on, our membership numbers, progress on goals and updates that are relevant. If at anytime you have any questions or comments for the Board, please email admin@abnlp.org.au. If you would like to chat directly with me, please email me at heidi@nlpworldwide.com.
Remember, the Leadership Team is just that - leaders of the ABNLP. However, the ABNLP belongs to ALL of us. We encourage you to be involved as much as you'd like to be!
On behalf of the Leadership Team, we look forward to your continued support and involvement with the ABNLP.
Best regards,
Heidi Heron ABNLP - Chairperson
