Greetings! |
With High Point Market officially opening Saturday April 17th, it is literally "around the corner". I, along with so many other companies, are preparing ourselves to present our best selves to our Trade customers that will honor us by visiting us and reviewing our collections during Market.
Our 1st showroom in Market Square |
Since Spring 2004 I have been exhibiting at the High Point Furniture Market, setting up my first High Point showroom, in the lovely and historic Market Square.
Subsequent showrooms in Suites @ Market Square |
And also since 2004, I have produced an online newsletter , where I "touch" my customers/prospects announcing new inventory, events, etc, but always couched with personal tidbits around my life as a mother of 3, dog breeder, ex expat, entrepeunuer.... Just as I would question myself if I was being "too personal", I would get an email that would encourage me to continue on in this vein.
...& here @ IHFC | The fact that the current "trend" in promoting businesses is to do just that, let your customers get to know you, and venues are popping up daily for us to do so (yes, all online) furthers my sentiment that I was on the right track all those years ago, and now, others are actively engaging in same. I Love it!
Co.Logo: My name. |
So, here I am, scribing my Pre Market Newsletter, which not only goes to my in house mailing list, but to all my followers on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. ALL these places where I have a chance to let you get to know who and what Antiques by Zaar is and what we're up to. Yes, I have no shortage of things to write about and places to place these tidbits.
And so, to that end, the MOST exciting news to share here and now...that being the introduction of Four Trade Partners...companies that are banding together, with Antiques by Zaar, as co exhibitors at our High Point showroom/warehouse.
And there's more...where else you'll see Antiques by Zaar in High Point...the product and the person......drum roll please....

Bellascenda |
Like Antiques by Zaar, Bellascenda has been showing in High Point for several years. Due to the recent renovations in Suites at Market Square, Bellascenda, like all of the Suites tenants, needed a place to store their showroom contents.
Trudy Simmons, founder/owner of Bellascenda, was already a friend of Antiques by Zaar, having served as a tennant in the home of my sales associate, Jeff Moore. Yes, would be a connection made on LinkedIn, that would put Trudy and Jeff together....Jeff further suggesting that we offer her the needed storage space.
However, as a member of the High Point Design Center, we did better than offer "storage" space, we offered "showroom" space....setting her pieces up in her own vignette. Denise Anderson, her sales associate, (a connection made through Jeff), mans her space, on what now will be (following Spring Market) 2nd Wed events for the HPDC.
As such was thrilled that Bellascenda co sponsored with me the luncheon we had in Februray as part of the Unity in Design Event, where we had the pleasure of having Terri Maurer present; speaker/author/past ASID National president AND, most notably, an online Antiques by Zaar customer. Recapped event here, in a blog.
Trudy sells a custom line of architectural quality cabinetry that conceals flat panel displays, and is based out of McLean VA. You can also shop her line on TODL.
Read my blog, where earlier this year I introduced Bellascenda to my world. |
Kat Burki |
In my 8/13/09 blog titled " Classy classy: Chinese Antique Desks in Hamptons Showhouse"I shared what was the first connection made between Kat Burki and Antiques by Zaar, as I sang the praises of my Chinese desks.
A month later, a 2nd blog titled " Road Trip Report: Hampton's Showhouse" quickly recapped my visit to said showhouse with my daughter Arianna.
And 5 months later (almost to the date) I wrote a 3rd blog, announcing the introduction of Kat Burki as an Antiques by Zaar Trade Partner...
Kat Burki, as written up in the 01/24/10 Whom You Know blog , is a "mover and a shaker" and has her hands in alot of different pots as she presents lifestyle options to the modern woman. As such, in addition to a line of custom upholstery and acessories, she also carries a line of bath and body products. So thrilled that she will not only be presenting her furniture/pillows during Market, but also having available items from her bath and body line as cash and carry items.
pg 96 for feature on Kat.
 |
And although I haven't blogged about it, I have flogged it (on Twitter/Facebook) the fact that Kat's Showhouse room, featuring the Antiques by Zaar pieces that became central to her design/color schema, is in the current issue of Traditional Home. Kat Burki DID do a blog about this though and posted on Twitter/Facebook etc.
You can see more of Kat's line featured (hot, hot, hot) in a blog put out by Exclusively Yours...just as a teaser for what to expect at Market.
Kat Burki is based out of Southport CT. | Vanderveer Imports |
You never know what will come of a "connection" and putting out there your "vision".
Yes, at above noted Unity in Design Event, Lisa Stewart, one of the attendees, heard me as I shared with the group my desire to create a "center", where designers could come to a location and shop a complementary collection of product....not only during Market but year round. At that time I had secured a commitment from Bellascenda, and Kat Burki was in final stages of such and I was open to add further "Trade Partners" to round us out.
Little did I know that she would shortly thereafter suggest to Kris and Kathy Coupland, that they approach me and introduce their line of Chinese porcelain and ceramics that she had seen (at another Trade event) and had been impressed with.
And so it would be that Kathy would send me an email, advising of Lisa's referral, and that would be the beginning of what is now the welcoming of Vanderveer Imports as yet another Trade Partner for Antiques by Zaar, as recently put forth in a blog.
Due to a family wedding (Kathy's daughter) that coincides with opening day of Market, they didn't even consider a presence at High Point this Spring. But we've been able to work out that their product will be presented and available for sale while they celebrate the start of a new shared life together.
Over 100 pieces of hand selected reproduction Chinese porcelain and ceramics will be available for sale during Market. Yes, another "cash and carry" item if you will.
Vanderveers is based out of Durham, NC. |
The Studio |
Our most recent addition to the group at 400 Mandustry St is The Studio. I had the pleasure of meeting Jess Dauray, the energy behind The Studio, at the first annual HPDC Trade Show, where she exhibited her product/services. We hit it off instantly and tried to determine how we could work together as we sought to promote our availability to the Trade customers in and around High Point year round.
We're very excited to have her present and sell rugs from the Madeline Weinrib Collection, which she has exclusive rights to sell in this region. Although we will be selling stock items, custom sizes are also available.
Welcome to Jess and her beautiful carpets! |

Raymond Waites Couture/Antiques by Zaar: 100 South Court, 200 N Hamilton |
The showroom is all set up and we're excited at how wonderful it all looks. AND we're excited about the high visibility of said showroom, as the picture windows serve as back drops to where the 3 champange breakfasts will be hosted Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings from 8:30-10:00. Read more/see more photos, here in my blog.
If you can't make the sumptuous breakfasts, be sure to join us Sunday night from 4:00-7:00 for cocktails, live music and a painting demonstration by Raymond Waites, himself.
Raymond is truly an icon, not only in High Point, but in the Furniture Industry and has earned multiple awards over the years...space which does not allow here to list out.
In the Spirit of encouraging a new generation of designers, he,.in conjunction with IFDA offered the first annual Raymond Waites scholarship competition. The winner of the generous 5,000.00 scholarship will be presented his prize Friday April 16th, in the Suites at Market Square, in a reception. House Beautiful has co sponsored this with IFDA. Yes, another must to event to attend. |
Smatterings of Antiques by Zaar "all over" High Point... |
It is indeed wonderful to work with fellow members of the High Point Design Center, and the below members/friends have worked in Antiques by Zaar pieces in their showrooms and have literature available to those that have an expressed interest in our collection.
Similarly, you will find representative pieces from below noted showrooms (and of course literature) at 400 Mandustry St. Red Egg: 207 W High St, High Point New River Artisan: 200 North Hamilton, Suite 301 Feizy Rugs: Market Square, Space 145
In addition you will find a splash of Chinese Antiques (of course from Antiques by Zaar) at the Aribesque showroom at 114 S Main St as well. Yes, only a couple of weeks before Market but don't be surprised if you here of additional locales where you can appreciate how well Chinese Antiques mix with a multitude of genres. Will keep you posted! |
Ruth "all over" High Point... |
There are many aspects to "working " the Market and over the years I've come to appreciate this more and more....particularly as I work for the continued year round visibility of Antiques by Zaar in High Point, beyond Market Dates. And so, with Jeff in place at the English St showroom and Betty at the warehouse, I set forth to spread the Antiques by Zaar presence at assorted events. For Spring 2010, this is what is currently slated. (Of course I will be available for appointments @ any of the 3 locations ....already have some set for Friday @ the warehouse, day before Market.)
