Greetings!
Can you believe it that January has already come and gone? And with so much snow...not only in Maine, but also most recently (and uncharacteristically) in North Carolina.
Per my most recent newsletter I noted that I had set intentions to focus on structure and discipline in a life that in so many ways appears to lack both, particularly with a heavy travel schedule which needs to be taken into consideration as I set to implement this "intention".
Am excited to be on the other side of my most recent 15 day stint working from my Maine residence, with a feeling of real accomplishment and of gaining ground on several fronts.
I also noted that I deigned to take advantage (in all the positive ways) of the many resources I have at my disposal, with a strong and supportive customer base from my 10 years in business. And happy to have a very concrete example of just that falling into place for me....as noted below with my co presenter at the Unity in Design Event next month in High Point. Please read on...

Save the Date: Friday February 19th, 2010
Where: Antiques by Zaar Warehouse/Showroom High Point NC.
What: Lunch and Speaker (as part of Unity in Design Event)
Who: Ruth (yours truly) of Antiques by Zaar with Terri Maurer, of Mauer Consulting.... presenting Relationships Matter.
Terri and I first got to know each other back in 2006 when she was in search of Asian armoires and she fell upon my site. Yes, we were successful in finding what she wanted and continued to keep her abreast of our activities by way of my online newslettter.
Shortly after I joined LinkedIn Terri initiated a connection here and if you're connected with Terri here, you KNOW how active she is, answering the questions posed by many on Discussion Boards.
And most recently we have reconnected further and long and short of it is that she has agreed to co present with me next month at my luncheon for the High Point Design Center event, Unity in Design.
This is only my 2nd such presentation (shared the podium with Neville Devlaliwalla of Cisco at ASID Carolinas conference last Fall.) but Terri is a seasoned speaker and now author.
Many of you know her from her many years involved with ASID at the national level, most notably by her 3 years serving a thier President.
Together we want to share the value in building a strong relationship with your customers and what that can mean for your business going forward, pointing to the example of our relationship provides.
You can register online for this event by clicking here. We are capping out at 30 attendees, so don't tary. Look forward to sharing to a full house!

New Year/New Buy
Excited to advise that our container is landing in our NC warehouse this first week of February. And also for the interest and sales that are already in place....thank you.
All pieces are posted on the site in thier respective catagories but you can also see the entire buy by visiting Fotki or Flickr. Retail prices and dimensions and short description available at all locations and additional photos can readily be emailed.
May I draw your attention to, in particular, the infusion of fresh items to view in the following categories...
Our selection of desks had been depleted, so very pleased to have a full line of such now available. A plethora of colors to choose from,
in addition to traditional black, red and natural.
Similarly we were very light on carved window screens. Happy to add an assortment of sizes and designs.
Benches serve just as well as coffee tables and several inquiries on such have had us secure a selection.
And our ever popular Ancestor paintings (again, inventory had been depleted) are now available with traditional serious faces with blue or red backdrops

....and the winner of the autographed Style and Substance giveway is (drum roll please).... Richard McCusker, interior architect/designer out of Arizona and author of the Custard by Design Blog, which I previously announced in my blog as well.
Thank you to the just shy of 50 folks (many from the LinkedIn Interiors group) that participated in this giveaway.
And yes, we have ANOTHER giveaway to announce.
Terri Maurer has JUST co authored a book (with Katie Weeks) directed to Designers, called Interior Design in Practice: Case Studies of Successful Business Models. It is hot off the press and she is offering an autographed copy for a giveaway. Click the book image to go direct to Amazon to purchase!
Be sure to send an email with Book Giveaway in Subject line and I will enter your name. We will do the drawing at the lunch/presentation on February 19th. |
HAITI Cherie
Haiti has long been known for being the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and now it has added to that status as being the country that has suffered the most devastating of earthquakes.
At the hands of my parents Haiti was introduced to me as a child and my very first plane trip, at 12 years of age, was to, yes, Haiti. Many trips ensued, and eventually I would live there for a span of 5 years.
Should you be interested in reading more in depth my history in Haiti you can do so by reading my blog which I wrote as a letter to Haiti, following the news of the earthquake.
Similarly, should you be interested in a credible venue to offer support to work in Haiti, I invite you to consider FIDA, the organization that my parents founded more than 20 years ago. Many are, includng the hundreds of people my parents hosted at thier Port au Prince guesthouse. Can read here, about one such person that also was part of my life in Haiti almost 25 years ago. |
Keep on keeping on....
I have finished this in the wee hours of Monday morning . Jet lag, as it is, has my timing all amuck and as such, wide awake at what was my 5:00 am in Singapore.
My first 2 days have been full to the brim...this trip, visiting my college daughter. (spending her semester here studying) is being all that it was meant to be.
It was just as important to me to post this missive before too long, as fueling life and breath onto my business remains of utmost priortiy to me as well....no matter where I am.
So yes, queries will be addressed... just with an adjustment in timing. Look forward to continuing on...
