Look forward to meeting (in person) many more of my customers this year. Here with Sandy Jenifer of Cheverly MD, customer since 2002.
...and for what I hope to be the first of many video testimonials, see what a long term Antiques by Zaar customer shares via video.

Appraiser of Chinese Antiques Sings our Praises |
It was with great pleasure that we received Daphne Rosenzweig of Rosenzweig and Associates ,certified appraiser specializing in Asian antiques, at our warehouse.
She noted pleasure in the fact that what we represented online was consistent with what she saw in person. ...yes, I wrote a blog on this and happy to share here.
If you want to visit our warehouse we are happy to make arrangements for such. Just shoot me a note at ruth@antiquesbyzaar.com
In the meanwhile you can get an idea of our space by viewing this You Tube video, or checking out these photos. |
Ark Antiques/Chinese Antiques A Real Deal! |
Susie Maley, heart and soul of Ark Antiques, has become a dear friend to me over the past year.
We have many things in common including a passion for Chinese Antiques (see photos of how she has placed the antiques in her home.) and wanting to bring a fine line of such to customers here in the West.
Each of our businesses have served us well to put ourselves out in the world, and how we have come to know each other.
Over the past year Susie made the very difficult decision to close the doors of Ark Antiques and as such is liquidating her fine inventory of Chinese Antiques.
So, if you are looking for a real deal, visit her website to see what she still has available.
...or contact her by email at

HAITI: Responding... |
The response to the very obvious need in Hait has been overwhelming. Just as overwhelming is to find how many people have a personal connection to Haiti. Yes, I am one of many, as is the organization my parents pioneered in the early 1980's, soley created to work hand in hand with the Haitians, to help them help themselves.
My sister and neice were in Haiti at the time the earthquake struck and gratefully survived. They are now armed with a new fervor to reach out to the Haitians as they face their days/thier lives ahead.
Here I would like to share with you the mission of my parents, in the form of FIDA, and also a letter my sister, the now executive director of FIDA, wrote to their concerned, and generous consituents, outlining her experience admist the earthquake.
It is my pleasure to have this venue to share this with my readers.
...and here, a 2nd blog on my dear Haiti Cherie. | |
Greetings!
The much anticipated arrival of 2010 is really and truly here. My expectations for this year are very high and as such I feel the need to make every day so count...this my 10th year selling online AND my 50th birthday....both in November.
Concerted attention will be given to hammering out the "how to's" of my "mission" as I make the not so short flight to Singapore the end of this month to visit our daughter, who is doing a semester abroad, through her school....which I will indeed be blogging about, if interested in knowing.
I have already determined that the basic gist of making it all work is to focus on my need to implement structure and discipline. With that as the back drop my hope is to come to a place where I can maximize the plethora of resources I have at my fingertips...just waiting for me to embrace/act on.
For starters, my efforts are to effectively communicate, connect, collaborate, cultivate and cross promote, using Antiques by Zaar as the vehicle to, as they say, "put it all out there".
YOU, my customers, my trade partners, my readers, my fellow business owners, my service providers, my family and my friends...I want to serve you all well. That is my goal for 2010....and so, to that end....

New Year/New Buy
As I mentioned in my Thanksgiving Newsletter, we indeed do have a container of pieces to add to our collection en route from China. In fact, it is due to arrive in our NC warehouse first week of February.
With the help of my son and daughter the contents of this container is now available to be viewed on Flickr, Fotki, and on our website.
On the photo sharing sites the pieces are in random order but, as always, you can find them in appropriate categories on our website.
May I draw your attention to, in particular, the infusion of fresh items to view in the following categories...
Our selection of desks had been depleted, so very pleased to have a full line of such now available. A plethora of colors to choose from,
in addition to traditional black, red and natural.
Similarly we were very light on carved window screens. Happy to add an assortment of sizes and designs.
Benches serve just as well as coffee tables and several inquiries on such have had us secure a selection.
And our ever popular Ancestor paintings (again, inventory had been depleted) are now available with traditional serious faces with blue or red backdrops.

To New Beginnings... A New Beginning can mean alot of different things for people. For the people of Haiti it means recovering from the earthquake of all earthquakes, relying on outside help for thier physical needs, and on their God for their Spiritual needs...the latter giving them the Strength they need to see themselves through each moment of each day.
For us, this natural disaster hitting a population that had so little before, and so much less now, puts into perspective those "issues" we face (and sometimes pine about) as we are challenging with what is our struggling economy. Do we really have it that bad?
And perhaps that is why people are so generously donating to charitable organizations that are responding to this catastrophe....realizing the dichotomy of what we have as issues as opposed to what this entire nation has as issues....or maybe it's as simple as people, in all their goodness, reaching out to respond to such an obvious need.
Yes, we can help and we must help...each as we are able/see fit. Having the privilege of a lifetime relationship with Haiti and it's people (put forth in recent blog) I am considering just how I can offer an ongoing contribution to a land and people that I have personally received so much from. To be sure will keep you posted as I determine the structure for such to work through my business.
In the meanwhile, I ask you to all join me in making 2010, and this next decade, all it's meant to be, whatever that means to you. I have a pretty good idea what that means to me....know the what's/whys...not necessarily the hows, but I'm ok with that.
As always, shall look forward to hearing from you....
