2009 has been a traumatic year for us with the loss of 3 very dear pets. It was with sadness that we said good bye our long time pets...Rock and Jewel, our golden retrievers of 12 and 10 years respectively and Gizmo, our cat of 10 years. Our son Zachary did a
video tribute to Rock and Jewel which I'd like to share with you here. Think you'll agree he captured the essence of what our canine family members meant to us.
I also posted this in a blog

The "Tsar" of Chinese   Antiques

 abyzaar sign

Above is an etching of a 5' long wooden sign that is being made for my business... a gift from my husband.
The  recognizable logo in the bottom left is my name, Ruth Olbrych, in Chinese. The Chinese script translates as Zaar or Tsar Antiques. I kind of like the play on words and no matter how you cut it it's a family name.
Zaar, for Zach,Ari, Avery (my 3 kids) and Ruth. My father was born in Russia and thus having "Tsar" as part of name works for me as well. No matter how you cut it I would like to think that Antiques by Zaar can indeed be the Tsar of Chinese Anitiques!

Greetings!

ruth showhouseFirst of all I am so grateful for this time of year where we are called to take some time out of our lives to reflect and be thankful...(although admittedly the craziness of preparing/attending family gatherings can get in the way of that just a tad), I think we can all agree that in keeping with "Thanksgiving,"  sitting back and reflecting on all that we are grateful for can have nothing but positive reprucussions for our lives going forward.
So, when challenged to take 5 minutes to scribble down all that I was thankful for, I bit. I shared this list in a recent blog posting (yes, titled "so very thankful...") and should you be interested in seeing what I put out there, would have you visit the post as it is a tad too long to put here. :)

I am also grateful for the fact that Thanksgiving is the anniversary of my first online sale, that being back in 2000,(see testimonial bottom of this page.) which incites me to reflect on the many gifts I have garnered, and continue to, by way of doing this business. The fact that the initial transaction of buying/selling a Chinese antique is the catylyst for the many friendships that I've developed across the nation simply blows me away. And it is my burning desire to take time this year, leading up to my 10th anniversary of that first sale, to fully acknowledge and thank each of you that have contributed to this my business...not just by making a purchase but furthermore by providing me with verbiage for my Testimonials, and/or photos for my Home Gallery

Please enjoy below how Sandra Jenifer has launched this campaign for/with me.

Customer Testimonial: Sandra Jenifer
 AbyZaar Customer May 2002- present

sandySandra Jenifer of Cheverly MD serves well to represent what I just mentioned above, the essence of what is the "icing on my cake" as I go about finding a place in your home,  for at least one of the pieces from my collection. In Sandy's case I  can boast that we have actually found for her (over the course of the years) no less than 16 pieces that infuse her MD home with a most definite Asian aura.

I had the pleasure of not only meeting her in person this desk and headboard sandypast Oct, but also having the opportunity to try and capture, via photos, the inviting and calm atmosphere she has created in her home. And so pleased that she has agreed to share these photos with you. You can view the photo album on my Flickr site, or on You Tube, where they are in slide show format. (And eventually they will find a home on my website as well, in the Galleria of Collectors.)

To top this off, Sandy, sweetheart that she is, agreed to do my very first video customer testimonial, which can be found by visiting this link on You Tube. Jointly we hope that this serves the purpose as was intended...to help spread the Antiques by Zaar word and offer confidence to those that are pondering shopping online with me but just are not quite sure.

Lastly, I have indeed written a blog about my visit with Sandy, and should you want yet more of this gushing, please visit this link.
NEW Buy: January 2010

2009 has been a year to "change it up"...
yes, what was pre 2009 simply had to be adjusted and reworked so that we could anticipate being here/in biz, post 2009.

As such our typical buying of a container every 2 months has been modified, as I'm sure, for those that have been following us for awhile, have noticed.

We are pleased to advise that we are pulling together a container, that will be shipped out of China in the New Year. Unlike before, we are adding to this container in stages and will be presenting throughout the "gathering' stage the pieces we have to date.

I'm excited for this new approach to our buying and that we will continually have fresh pieces to present to you, albeit, pending on when you come on board to purchase a piece that is still in China, a longer lead time from purchase to delivery may incur.

So, exicited to present to you the first 19 pieces, which you can see by visiting this link. Basic info is there...photo, dimensions and price. And yes, we are taking deposits on pieces, as we did before. IF the perfect one of a kind piece is there, it is available for you to secure and we'll keep you posted on its movement.

FREE SHIPPING: My Christmas Gift to you.

Yes, by way of saying thank you to my retail customers...those that have contributed as they have to my business, and to those that are still contemplating such, I'd like to offer  FREE SHIPPING on all orders of $2,000.00 or more. This also applies to layaway orders and/or on items purchased from New Buy, even though they wont' be shipped until after the New Year.

Notes:
  • Not to be combined with any other discount.
  • To qualify the order simply must be placed between dates of November 25th and December 31
  • In the unlikely event of a return, shipping charges will incur and price for this will be clarified prior to purchase.
 Antiques by Zaar/Social Media

Yes, as an online based business I am happily engaging in the platforms made available for me to put myself and my business out there. If interested in following me in any or all of below venues, I welcome your "following"....and if you're new to this, allow me to help and hold your hand. I'm just like you, figuring it out.

Twitter:  A place for me to post a daily morning greeting, and also to post my blogs and newsletters.

Facebook: A great place to post photos. Do so on my personal page, but if you like to be more "strickly business" can go to my Fan page.

LinkedIn: Again, a place to post my blogs. Have started a group for Antiques by Zaar and look for it to be a place to share information/ideas on using Chinese Antiques in your decorating scheme, as many designers coming to hang their hat here.

....so very thankful
It has been wonderful to connect with you all by way of this newsletter.
I further invite any of you that are keen to get to know me better (particularly as you ponder your first purchase) to check out what I'm saying on my blogs, which in essence are short (yes, I'm learning brevity) versions of this newsletter. I am so enjoying these opportunities to stay in touch with past customers and introduce myself to new ones.

Yes, two of the items on my thankful list were the internet and social media, as both have been the base for expanding my world beyond belief. And to think this is the new "trend" for doing business. I love it!

So, thank you for taking the time to read this and finally wish you, one and all a Happy Thanksgiving. Here in Maine, a turkey for Mark and I, as kids immersed in college work in Canada, and don't get the holiday. Christmas, I am reminded, is right around the corner and to decorating the house I must get.

Please do drop a line and let me know how you are and/or how I can help you.Carved Chinese Stature
