Abby, the new AbyZaar poster pup, was delivered to Cindy Hernandez of Decorating Den en route to High Point for the Unity in Design event

AbyZaar & New River Artisans
Ruth Olbrych and Leith of New River Antiques

A handful of Chinese antiques serve to accent the custom carpets in the New River Artisan showroom. Welcomed the invitation to their luncheon where Leith Satterwhite, fellow HPDC member and owner of New River, introduced me and my collection to her audience of designers. Thank you Leith!
AbyZaar & Feizy Carpets
AbyZaar
Feizy Carpets hosted a wonderful cocktail party prior to the networking dinner Thursday evening. AbyZaar was pleased that the folks at Feizy were happy to promote AbyZaar with addition of some accent pieces in their showroom
A United Front: DPNC
Design Professionals of NC was born of a need for a strong and united front to get a tax bill passed that ultimately benefits all NC Design professionals. Representatives from HPDC, ASID, IDS, IIDA and NKBA all joined forces to form the DPNC and as such were successful in their mission.
The impact of this united front was again represented in the orchestration of the Unity in Design Event which I have raved about throughout this entire missive.

Greetings!

Not sure who was responsible for bringing the uncharacteristically cold temperatures to NC last week; possibly either yours truly, who traveled from Maine, or Scott Thomas, fellow HPDC member/owner Scott Thomas, who came in from an equally habitually cold Ohio. However, it was obvious that even the snow fall we had on Wed was not daunting and as such did not get in the way of the Unity in Design Event pushing forward and being the great success it was.
2009 Winter Event: Success

Can you believe that just less than 120 designers and 40 showroom managers participated? These numbers being equal to those who attended this event last year; no small feat with the conditions presented, of economy AND weather.  Four speakers held informative and energetic presentations that were well attended as well as three showrooms Scott Thomas, Habersham and New River Artisans organized speakers along with their luncheons.
A Moving Forward Attitude

The prevalent tone of the 4 day event, in presentations and in casual conversation, was the importance of not getting caught up and stalled by the negativity pushed out daily in the media. Times are indeed challenging and as such we must seek out opportunities that make us stand out to our client base. As I had anticipated I was enveloped by a group of people that are determined to work against the tide and as such make the "times" as they are serve as an opportunity rather than a road block. We are called to be creative, courageous and move forward with fortitude.
Networking Delight

By making myself available at registration posts, attending the New River luncheon, mingling at cocktail parties and offering a raffle at the networking dinner, I had numerous opportunities to make myself known, not only to designers but also to my fellow HPDC members, which I am enjoying getting to know.

I enjoyed hearing the many positive comments from Designers that were appreciative of such an event being organized for them and having us available to them to shop for their clients, not only during this 4 day event but also throughout the year. Most definitely there is a growing  audience of customers that are becoming aware of and are taking advantage of the many resources available to them in High Point.
AbyZaar/Jeff Moore: On the Ready
Jeff Moore

The Winter Event is an annual event but monthly the HPDC showrooms are open for the first Wednesday of each month, and following many of us are open by appointment.

As I am unable to be present for these monthly events I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce Jeff Moore, my NC based sales associate.  Jeff lives in Greensboro NC and is available by appointment throughout the year and also for entire day on the first Wednesday events. Her Design background not only makes it such that she can "speak the speak" but also ensures that our collection in our showroom (and yes, also in our warehouse) is presented with style and grace. She has a most engaging personality and it seems like there isn't much she hasn't done in her lifetime. Her enthusiasm and love of our genre of furniture was fueled by a trip to China in 2006 that left a lasting impression on her. And like me, (who lived in Asia for 8 years) is happy for the opportunity to keep that passion alive by way of presenting our collection of Chinese antiques to those who are similarly interested. I'm so very pleased to have her, not only as a vital representative of abyzaar but also as a very dear friend. So, know that you are in good hands with Jeff, who I've had the pleasure of working with for 3 years and counting.
Thank You

To all those Designers that attended this event, thank you.
To those that did the Presentations, thank you.
To all of the participating Showrooms, thank you.
To all those that organized and orchestrated this event, thank you.
To all that I had the opportunity to meet and greet, I thank you for your ear.

The theme was Unity in Design, but we truly need to take note of the fact that it is Unity in Effort that made this particular Event the success it was. I am proud to be a member of the HPDC, an organization that is indeed committed to just that, and I look forward to seeing how we will all benefit from this united front.
