Greetings!
A family wedding in Brussels incited a European vacation we otherwise would not have taken. This included a four day post wedding party, hosted by the happy couple, in (of course) Venice, (with 37 other guests) and was something to truly remember, in particular the after hours private tour of St Marc's, and the gala masquerade dinner where we were transported to our dining venue by a fleet of gondolas. Yes, we were a "tourist attraction". (Click here for more photo's of Europe)
Ruth and Mark enroute to Dinner via Gondola Thinking about how it makes me feel having been the recipient of such a phenomenal gift still emits a "glow", and I know that there are 36 other people scattered in various parts of Europe/America feeling the same. How wonderful. We didn't have time to sit back and digest this trip as we were home but a day when I would leave to start what would be a 10 day road trip to settle our 3 children into colleges in Montreal Quebec and London Ontario. While I was putting 2,500 miles on a rental car, Mark made his way to China to see what he could find to add to our collection. A week ago Thursday we finally both returned from tending to our respective responsibilities, for family and business, to fully engage in working this business, and yes, as empty nesters. And so, without further delay, I am here to present to you the latest and greatest for Antiques by Zaar. |

Bamboo bookcases: In addition to some stunning altars, we were also able to locate a great pair of chairs as well as 2 exquisite pairs of bookcases, rounding out our collection of bamboo rather nicely. Click here to view details

Our reproduction lamps have recently found their way into a section all their own on our website. Visit current stock here and also check out what we were able to add to this selection on our Fotki site. Click here to view our current inventory of Lamps

To The Future of Our Business
Before my children's memory we started and ran a small import/handicraft business (Kado D'Haiti) from our home in Canada, supporting the artisans in Haiti, which I had known during the 5 years I lived there. It brought in a modest income as time, with 3 preschoolers underfoot, (as you can well imagine) was indeed limited, but was something that I was impassioned about and was sad about having to give up when we made our move to Asia in 1991. I felt like I was leaving part of myself behind. Our following 8 years in Thailand and Taiwan were full to over flowing as I enjoyed making a "home away from home", being fully available to my children, found fulfillment with involvement at the board level of various women's groups, became a master party thrower, and basically lived the life of the consummate expat wife, which I fully embraced. Antiques by Zaar, as the name suggests (ZAAR: Names of our children being Zach, Ari, and Avery, and I being Ruth, anchor the name) was established as our family business in 1999, when our kids were 9, 10 and 12 and just after our move to the States. This business has and continues to serve as a venue for me to keep alive these two elements of what have been distinctive and impressionable parts of my self; that being one who loves to sell something that she is impassioned about and the other to be doing something directly as a result of our time spent in Asia. The added punch would be that I can do something I love that contributes to supporting our family. On another side of it, working from home has given me the flexibility to avail myself to my family, as they needed, not simply as my time allowed. Yes, on days with meltdowns over boyfriends required a shoulder, taking in hockey and soccer games, or just the daily 20 minute gab session once home from school. Business would take a back seat (or dealt with at unconventional "office" hours) to be present for the moment. I know myself privileged to have had such a window on the world of children, while working. And so, as I face my "empty nest" I, for the very first time since the inception of this our family business, have the opportunity to put the business first in a way that hasn't been possible, for the very real and important reasons noted above. I am thrilled about being in this place, able to further immerse myself in promoting and growing this, which has so become a part of me, and which I look forward to nurturing and encouraging forth, not unlike each and every one of my children. So, it is with fervor, passion, commitment and a pure enjoyment for all that comes my way by way of Being Antiques by Zaar, that I look to the future. To that future which is well lit by all of those that have come my way and become part of the AbyZaar family and for all those that will yet join. What a great thing to anticipate! | |

Look Forward To Hearing from you.
And so, on a familiar note, I wish you well. In particular would like to send a special note to my customers in LA and TX which have just experienced such devastation with dramatic weather fronts. My prayer is that you have weathered the storms and are able to move forward with your lives unscathed. I have enjoyed visiting you via this edition and shall look forward to hearing from you and/or seeing you. You know how to reach me, and I am quite assuredly on the ready! Ruth
