Greetings!
What is everyone thinking? Business is down, the marketplace is soft, there are not enough clients/customers...and you decide NOT TO MARKET your business? This is the worst decision you can make as a business owner. Have you noticed that your mail has dwindled down to just a few pieces a day? Have you noticed how thin newspapers have become? Have you noticed how you keep hearing the same radio spots over and over and over again?
Think about it. You have the most unbelievable opportunity NOW. Your competitors are not advertising or marketing themselves. What do you think will happen to most of these companies when the economy turns around (and it WILL)?
History proves that those that hold back on their marketing during down times NEVER recapture their market share. Those that continue to promote their companies, not only survive, but capture MORE share of the market that their competitors lost. Don't let fear guide you. Get out there. Let the world know that you are a viable successful business. THE ONLY way you can do this is to market and promote your services and products. This may mean direct mail, e-newsletters, press releases, radio ads, trade shows, ads, updated websites, and more. BUT you OWE it to your business not to let it FAIL~
Don't let "social media" scare you. LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter, etc. are all out there. But these options are in their infancy and will not replace traditional marketing. They will supplement your marketing. They will also not target many of your clients if you are trying to reach people that are not in their 20's and 30's. And even it you are targeting that market, you STILL need to have some traditional marketing in your mix.
Don't miss this opportunity to capture more business. Give me a call and let me help you plan how to get your message out.
Thanks! Jill

How to select your marketing firm
Recently, we have been hired as ONE of SEVERAL firms to design a particular project. This is a new phenomena. I'm not sure why this is happening and I can guess that companies are shoring their "bets" by paying several firms to do what one should be able to do. This is an expensive exercise that really should not have to happen. If you do your homework, review potential firms websites, interview the principals, look at their portfolios and perhaps call their references, then the one firm you select should be able to do the job. In my experience, design is a process. We meet with the client, we listen to their needs, we ask appropriate questions and we come back with our design suggestions. Then, after a review of the designs and discussions about what works and what doesn't we come back with what should be very close to what the requirements of the job entails. Why clients think they need to go through this with multiple firms is perplexing. Would you hire several architects to design your home? Anyway, I believe this is part of the "fear" clients are feeling and their own lack of confidence in selecting one firm to do the work. I suggest that you reconsider this practice. You are spending a lot of money to " hedge" your bets, and if you do your homework, you will be very satisfied with the results of the ONE firm you hire.

Is color important? You bet it is! Why are spas green, or gyms blue, or hospitals white? There is a psychology behind color that most people are not aware of even though they react to it instinctively. Here are some examples of how color affects people: Black is the color of authority and power. It is popular in fashion
because it makes people appear thinner. It is also stylish and
timeless. Black also implies submission. Brides wear white to symbolize innocence and purity. White reflects
light and is considered a summer color. White is popular in decorating
and in fashion because it is light, neutral, and goes with everything. Red is the most emotionally intense color. It stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular
colors. It causes the opposite reaction as red. Peaceful, tranquil blue
causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in
bedrooms. Green is currently the most popular decorating color. It symbolizes nature.
It is the easiest color on the eye and can improve vision. It is a
calming, refreshing color. Yellow is an attention getter. While it is considered an
optimistic color, people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms,
and babies will cry more. It is the most difficult color for the eye to
take in, so it can be overpowering if overused. Purple is the color of royalty,. It connotes luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It is also feminine and romantic. Brown is the color of earth and is abundant in nature.
Light brown implies genuineness while dark brown is similar to wood or
leather. Brown can also be sad and wistful.
Interesting sidenote: While blue is one of the most popular colors it is one of the least
appetizing. Blue food is rare in nature. Food researchers say that when
humans searched for food, they learned to avoid toxic or spoiled
objects, which were often blue, black, or purple. When food dyed blue
is served to study subjects, they lose their appetite.
Green, brown, and red are the most popular food colors. Red is often
used in restaurant decorating schemes because it is an appetite
stimulant. So when you are selecting colors for your branding materials, office environment or clothing, think twice before you make the selection. It does matter!
