Special Offer
Bite Adjustment for the first five patients to call
Only for established patients who have had a comprehensive exam and x-rays within the past two years.
As not everyone will benefit from a bite adjust, the person would need to qualify for this offer, to ensure it will help them.
If one's teeth are worn down or flat from excessive grinding, there will be no benefit.
A healthy, functional tooth has marked anatomy (peaks and valleys) on the chewing surface.
If the anatomy is insufficient, a bite adjust is like trying to fix bald tires on a car by rotating them.
This procedure may require multiple visits, and an Informed Choice disclosure will need to be signed.
To make an appointment, call Michelle at 727 446-6747
Special Price: $137

Greetings!
Did you know that tooth sensitivity could be caused by your bite? |
There are several factors that can cause tooth sensitivity.
A key one is the bite being off. One of the indications of that is the presence of abfractions, which are areas at the gumline where the enamel gradually chips away. This loss of the outer covering of the tooth at the gumline is the result of clenching, grinding (especially at night) and even biting.
Think of your tooth as a nail. If you were to bend a nail back and forth, eventually it would break. It breaks or weakens at the point it is stabilized. In a tooth, this relates to the gumline, the junction of the tooth & gum.
Abfraction
 |
Your tooth responds to pressure in the same way! Enamel rods (structure) will break away, causing holes and small cracks in your teeth.
These cracks and splits in the enamel weaken your teeth and can cause a painful response, mostly to cold, sometimes hot and more rarely to sweets. But they do not ALWAYS create symptoms, one can have them and not hurt.
What does an abfraction look like?
Abfractions can appear as indentations on the tooth near the gum line. You may be wondering what the difference is between an abfraction and a "run-of-the-mill cavity."
Abfractions are a direct result of excessive pressure, specifically torquing and twisting when the teeth come together - they are not caused by the presence of bacteria in your mouth.
Dentists used to think these were caused by brushing too hard or using a stiff toothbrush. But now we know that's not true.

Abfractions can affect the comfort, health and longevity of your teeth. Luckily, these can be prevented by correcting and maintaining a proper bite.
A very precision technique to create a correct bite was developed at Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Using this specialized "neuromuscular technique" creates a situation where the teeth meet each other in a very exact manner. We have drastically improved sensitivity just by doing this.
Even having it "off" just by a little bit can cause pain, sensitivity, abfractions, and believe it or not, is a primary cause of a tooth dying and becoming a candidate for root canal treatment or extraction.
As the teeth come together around 2,000 times a day, each time one swallows, you can see this adds up and can inflict a lot of trauma on a tooth that doesn't hit properly.
Here's to great dental health ~
