These people benefited from Neuromuscular Dentistry!

At Behm Natural Dentistry, we have been able to provide the benefits of Neuromuscular Dentistry to several of our patients. These pictures tell the stories!

Patient #1:
Before:
This patient was suffering from frequent headaches that required medication plus back, shoulder and hip pain. The pain prevented him from exercising and forced him to stop working after four or five hours.

JK before

After: Headaches were infrequent and mild, a huge improvement. Patient work and exercise was no longer restricted.

Patient #2: Before:

In this case, the patient's teeth were severely worn down from years of grinding. Patient snored due to a partially-collapsed airway resulting from improper muscular and skeletal relationships. Patient also chose to achieve a better-looking smile.

After upper mouth
restoration:
 Patient's
restorations resulted in a more harmonious relationship between jawbones and much less snoring.

Greetings!

Why Should You Know About Neuromuscular Dentistry? Because You May Need the Benefits it Offers -- Without Even Knowing it!
Could you experience relief from Neuromuscular Dentistry?

The short answer is this: a very high proportion of people are experiencing problems with their teeth, jaws, head, neck or other areas that have their source in neuromuscular dentistry. Their solutions to the problems that result range from pain medication, surgery or simply living with the problem. Most people suffering from this type of problem  have no idea of the relief available to them.

To explain this more fully, let's start with a brief definition of terms.
Neuromuscular breaks down into two parts:

Neuro - relating to the nerves and nervous system; Muscular - relating to the muscles of the human body.

Neuromuscular dentistry involves the relationship and harmonious operation of your nerves, muscles, joints and teeth.

The next word you need to know is occlusion. This word refers to the way your jaws bring the contact surfaces of the upper and lower teeth together. For many people, the ways their jaws move and their teeth meet forces their jaws into a slightly (or not so slightly) unnatural position. A person's usual bite is called their habitual occlusion.

Over time, a poor habitual occlusion creates stresses on the teeth, resulting in wear and even breakage. It also creates stress on the joints and muscles, resulting in a multitude of physical problems and symptoms. The muscles are pulled out of their optimum positions and can go into spasm and this pulls the bony structure of the jaw out of its optimum position.

It is possible to correct this positioning into what is referred to as the neuromuscular occlusion. This means that the functions of the nerve, muscles and joints are in optimum positions to work together harmoniously.

"I got into neuromuscular dentistry because I saw that some of my patients had problems that the usual range of dentistry wasn't touching," said Dr. Behm. "That just wasn't good enough for me. I want patients to achieve a really optimum result from their care and that meant that I had to go looking for another solution. When I found it, I knew I'd found just the answer that a lot of patients needed."

So exactly what problems result from a non-harmonious bite?

   ·  Headaches
   ·  Jaw joint pain
   ·  Jaw joint noise or clicking
   ·  Limited ability to open the mouth
   ·  Ear congestion
   ·  Facial pain
   ·  Sensitive teeth
   ·  Chewing difficulties
   ·  Neck pain
   ·  Postural problems
   ·  Tingling of the fingertips
   ·  Tooth sensitivity to heat and cold
   ·  Nervousness or insomnia
   ·  Clenching or grinding of teeth
   ·  Dizziness
   ·  Ringing in the ears
   ·  Difficulty swallowing
   ·  Loose teeth

Neuromuscular dentistry may offer a final resolution to these problems for many people who thought they just had to suffer.

Dr. Behm has authorized free neuromuscular analyses to the first five newsletter readers who call the office to set an appointment. "If any of my patients have these symptoms, I don't want them to wait a single minute," insisted Dr. Behm. "I want them to know that relief is possible. It's very unusual for us to offer free consultations but we're doing it now to get the word out on this new service."

How Does Neuromuscular Dentistry Work?

The process of correcting the bite to the neuromuscular occlusion starts with taking a mold of your teeth in the habitual occlusion. With this information in hand, Dr. Behm can begin to calculate your optimum bite.

Next, to determine the actual position your jaw should be in, the muscles of your neck and head must be fully relaxed. In most people, the muscles of the head and jaw adjust to compensate for a faulty bite and then get fixed in that position. For the jaw to relax into its most harmonious position, gentle, pulsing electrical stimulation is administered to the nerves and muscles of the face, neck and jaw until they fully relax.

With the muscles relaxed, a computerized system performs measurements of the jaw to determine its exact movements. An analysis of these measurements allows Dr. Behm to determine your optimum bite position.

The next task is to move the bite into that position. This can be done with orthodontic treatment (braces) for some people, with an orthotic (device or appliance worn by the patient that adjusts the jaw into the correct position) or by reconstruction of the bite by placing crowns on some or all teeth to permanently set them in the perfect relationship. Reconstruction provides a neuromuscular solution as well as a cosmetic solution, if any cosmetic issues exist.

The Results of Neuromuscular Dentistry

In one case, a patient was suffering from continuous pain over much of his body that stemmed directly from his habitual occlusion. J.K. suffered from frequent headaches in addition to shoulder, neck and hip pain. "Before" photos showed one shoulder to be markedly higher than the other. His work was limited to four or five hours before shoulder pain stopped him. Sports were out of the question.

When J.K. received his first orthotic, the relief was instantaneous. Any headaches he got were mild and no longer required medication. He could now work for ten or eleven hours as his shoulder pain was alleviated
. Athletic activities no longer caused severe hip pain. And his shoulders were now square.
