Coddington's Nebula is an intense star forming region of glowing hydrogen gas in the dwarf galaxy IC 2574. Astronomers think that supernova explosions spewing material into the galaxy's interstellar medium are triggering this star formation. Coddington's Nebula, seen toward the northern constellation Ursa Major, is 12 million light-years distant. It was discovered by American astronomer Edwin Coddington in 1898.
