Yoga celebrating the Sweetness of Life

WE HAVE NOT COME TO TAKE PRISONERS     -Hafiz

We have not come here to take prisoners,
But to surrender ever more deeply
To freedom and joy.

We have not come into this exquisite world
To hold ourselves hostage from love.

Run my dear,
From anything
That may not strengthen
Your precious budding wings.

Run like hell my dear,
From anyone likely
To put a sharp knife
Into the sacred, tender vision
Of your beautiful heart.

We have a duty to befriend
Those aspects of obedience
That stand outside of our house
And shout to our reason
"O please, O please
Come out and play."

For we have not come here to take prisoners
Or to confine our wondrous spirits,

But to experience ever and ever more deeply
Our divine courage, freedom, and
Light!

Today I commit to FREEDOM.

1.  Take a few breaths, close your eyes and become aware of any sensations of discomfort in your body.  If you identify a place in your body that feels congested or constricted, ask yourself, "What life issue is this sensation telling me about?" Recognizing that emotional conflicts are often expressed as physical tension, allow any bodily sensations to bring your attention to possible mental debates you are having with yourself.  Ask what you can do to create inner peace and free yourself from conflict.

2. Cultivate the habit of asking yourself, "What choice can I make in this moment to move in the direction of my well-being?'

3. Change is the only constant in life.  We either resist new things from entering or familiar things from leaving, and in this resistance we struggle. Resisting the inevitable, we become entrapped in our limited idea of how things should be.  From a spiritual perspective, freedom from attachment to a particular outcome is the ultimate expression of liberation.  We can choose the actions we take, but we cannot control the consequences of our choices.  Freedom is expanded by focusing our energies on the options available and making choices that have the greatest chance of increasing peace and happiness in our lives.

"Commitment is the one-pointed intention towards the fulfillment of your deepest desires.  Commitment initiated at a deep level of awareness orchestrates its own fulfillment. The organization of nature's forces to fulfill your intentions occurs as the result of a shift in context and meaning.  When you recognize that reality is a selective act of attention and interpretation - a selective act of perception - you become capable of consciously co-creating your life.  Like a newborn infant who emerges from the womb, intentions that carry the power of commitment never return to their unmanifest state."
