Greetings! Spring seems to be an appropriate time to consider Karma, one of the great teachings of yoga. As we garden outside, take some time to do some internal gardening. What seeds are we planting for the future? Commit to planting happiness for ourself by creating the causes of happiness for others. Offer kindness and compassion to others in order to take better care of ourself. This gardening is based on the simple, profound wisdom that what we sow, we shall reap. What goes around around, comes around. Yoga reminds us to mindfully choose our thoughts, words and actions. Our lives are beautiful webs of causality...we have the power to cultivate goodness and joy, with the effect of peace and harmony in our world. Changing our choices changes our world.

APRIL 19: QI GONG with Mark Broscheit: eight gentle movements which renew the mind, body and heart connection. these meditative movements refresh and purify the Qi in the body. through the inner stillness of "Awakening the Soul", one is able to return to the beginning, return to the newness of coming into this realm for the first time. When the heart is opened, the experience is like breathing fresh life into the body. This becomes the doorway to freedom and clarity. One gains a deeper understanding of life and what truly matters.
APRIL 26: EXPLORING CORE IN YOGA POSTURES with Naresh Ron King: safety, strength, and evolution We will explore together the use of core stabilization to enhance our Yoga practise. This is not about six-pack abs and force-strength; we develop a toning of the whole body and a deeper inner strength. This means that everyone can benefit from these simple yet powerful awarenesses and techniques. We use the basic postures to learn how to be more stable in the "asanas" (poses) which allows for more "steadiness and comfort" (as the sage Patanjali, who codified the practise of Yoga, recommended for asana practise). Thus, the higher practises of Yoga, concentration and stillness, can be attained while practising Hatha Yoga. The illusion of separation between body and mind is lessened. We also learn more functional, safe and supported movement in our daily lives. Welcome to Yoga students at all levels of practise.
We also pleased to host Naresh Ron King as a special guest teacher for all classes April 26th and 27th!!!! Naresh's BIO: I have been a yoga student over 20 years. After moving to the Kripalu Center in early 1992, at first working as photographer, I gradually moved into teaching Yoga classes. After extensive training and mentoring, I began to teach Yoga programs, starting with the weekend seminars, evolving into a Director of the 28 day intensive Yoga Teacher trainings. What a ride it has been! The practise of Yoga has and is bringing growth and change to my life, keeping me fit as I get older, and inviting my heart a little more open. I am always happy to share the treasures that this practise has gifted to me. Namaste

What About Me? by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
What about me? That's my first thought every morning. What happened to me? It's my last thought every night. Has this gotten me anywhere? Any more friends? Any more love? It should. It should have, by now. In fact, by now I should be a bundle of joy. Because I say this mantra every day. What about me? What about me? What about me?
In fact, it's embarrassing I state this mantra all day Like the beating of my heart: What about me? What about me? What about me? What about me? When I take a shower, I think: what about me? I hope this shower makes me feel happy. I hope this kiss makes me feel happy. I hope this lunch makes me happy. I hope these clothes make me feel happy. I hope this donut, this cup of coffee, This new affair, this new job What about me? What about me? What about me? What about me? What about me? This new spiritual practice, This new movie, this new CD Oh, this new CD will make me happy What about me? That's my first thought every morning. What about me? What happens to me? It's my last thought every night. Has this gotten me any more love? Any more joy? This new city, this new country, This new planet, this new universe makes me happy. You know what? None of it will make you happy Unless you do one simple thing: Change "me" for "you." Change "me" for "you." Just wake up in the morning, try something wild. Just break up the monotony. Instead of "me," say "you." Are you? Are you happy? Are you? Are you happy? What about you? That's my first thought every morning. What about you? What happens to you? It's my last thought every night. This has given me so much more love, so much more joy. When I give you a big fat kiss, take a shower, Make my bed, when I dance, May it make you happy. When I give you the remote control, May it make you happy. When I sit on a park bench by myself, When I feel the sun, the breeze, May it make you happy. When I just look at you, and stare at your eyes, May it make you happy. And you know what? When you're happy, I'm happy. That's the formula: First you, then me. That's all happiness is. It's just the heart of being free. |
