SOL thoughts

Dance,when you are broken open.
Dance,if you've torn the bandage off.
Dance,in your blood.
Dance, when you are perfectly free.  -Rumi

The best things in life are nearest. Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right before you.                    -Robert Louis Stevenson

SOL SCROLLS
thank you for being part of the SOL Yoga Community!
prayerGreetings!
I love yoga!! At the 2007 Yoga Journal Conference in Colorado, I had a beautiful chance to reflect with reverence on the gifts I have received from my yoga practise.  I saw clearly the elegance that is granted to a  life engaged in a love affair with this ancient, yet-oh-so-modern art of celebrating both the finite and the infinite.  I also attended this conference in 2005, at the beginning of my yoga journey, mere months after surrendering to a "do-over" in every aspect of my life.  Then it was a vessel of catharsis and an earnest beginning to accumulting tools for living a life in which suffering is optional.  Two years later, having practised yoga everyday, I am granted an invaluable perspective....YOGA WORKS!!   I am in awe of how much peace and harmony is in my world, how rich my inner life is, how clear the feeling that I am living happily ever after is.  Thank you to all who walk this path with me, as teachers and students, as humans and divine beings, I am grateful to be on this trip with you!!

There were two main themes for me at this years conference (other than the feeling of "ohmigosh, this stuff really works!!').  The first was the resounding affirmation that yoga is supposed to be fun.  At the conference, there were those that got their kicks doing hip-hop power yoga or advanced vinyasa or yoga on a slackline...while I was blown away to sit at the feet of Patanjali scholars and listen to them recite the Sutras in Sanskrit.  As Swami Satchidananda often said, Many Paths, One Truth.  There was a feeling of unity even as we all found our own unique expression of the yoga experience. Do the yoga that makes your heart sing and do it with great enthusiasm.  It works.

The second theme was a reminder, from the two thousand year old wisdom of Patanjali, of HOW to make yoga work in creating unconditional happiness and true freedom and pure love in our lives.  Practise yoga, over sustained periods of time without interruption with committment. Then be non-attached to the fruits of the practise.  Show up everyday and let go.
And pleeaaaaase don't forget to enjoy the ride!!
Namaste, Marita

WOW
Where does the real poetry come from?
From the amorous sighs in this moist dark whem making love with form or Spirit.
Where does poetry live?
In the eye that says, "Wow wee,"
In the overpowering felt splendor
Every sane mind knows when it realizes- our life dance is only for a few magic seconds,
From the heart sayiong, shouting,
"I am so damn Alive."
-Hafiz
