The Ask the Expert zone on Delta-Exchange is developing quite a following. Are you in the Zone?
GROUP SESSION -- Ying Studebaker asked: "Has anyone done group session? How do you bill group session?"
Dr. Len Fromer offered DIGMA titbits, Dr. Dennis Saver cautioned against confusing a 'class' run by a nurse vs a billable group visit that includes interaction with a physician, TransforMED facilitators Shelly Phinney and Jim Arend posted information gleaned from their work with practices, NDP participants Dr. Edward Schwager and Dr. Ramona Seidel chimed in, Illinois AAFP Chapter Exec Vincent Keenan suggested a case study online at the the IAFP website that shows how a practice can do group visits with patients with diabetes, Practice Manager Donna Francis commented on billing codes, and Dr. Greg Stefanek offered a link to an excellent video news story on the myriad benefits of shared medical appointments (SMA) in Massachusetts, featuring group visit pioneer Ed Noffinsger, PhD.
TIME FOR A CHANGE? -- TransforMED's Marly McMillen asked: "What are some of the most common mistakes leaders make when implementing change?"
AAFP Board Chair Dr. Jim King offered his thoughts on the need for measurement and Dr. Gregg Stefanek shared how his practice is empowering key staff members to help drive change. Several NDP partcipants who are now members of the Touchstone Group also weighed in: Dr. Stephen Veit observed that practices too often measure what's easiest to measure, Dr. Bob Eidus talked about the continual reinforcement of the desired change until it's "baked into the fabric of our culture"; Dr. Joe Mambu reminded the group of recently published learnings from the TransforMED pilot project that advise attention to the "core competencies" of leadership, teamwork and change management; and Dr. Melissa Gerdes spoke about the need to seek and accept feedback.
