At the last membership luncheon, the following members were elected for a three year term on the Chamber's Board of Directors:  Steve Mokasak (Hy-Vee Food & Drug Store), Christine Smailys (Christine's Salon at 7 & Main), Tanya Mitchell (Fike Corporation) and John Beaudoin (Blue Springs Journal). Congratulations to the new Directors.
Blue Springs Chamber Retreat
 
The annual retreat for the Chamber has been set for Friday October 23rd and 1/2 day Saturday October 24th.  The event will be held in Blue Springs and will serve to establish priorities for the Chamber for fiscal year 2010 and beyond.  Board members, Committee Chairmen and Chamber members are invited to attend.  If you would like more information about this retreat, please contact Lara at the Chamber office.
 
Board Of Directors Activity
 
At the September meeting of the Board of Directors: 
  • The Chamber Board endorsed a resolution in support of The Wall That Heals.  This wall  is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC and will be in Blue Springs in September of 2010.
  • A financial report including a year-to-date budget was reviewed and approved.
  • The retention rate for the Chamber was reviewed and discussed. 
  • Updates were provided about existing programs of the Chamber including the Leadership Blue Springs program and the opportunity for business speakers to speak to local high school students.
  • The Chair-Elect discussed the upcoming retreat for the fall of this year.
  • The upcoming Fall Fun Festival was reviewed.  Board members were asked for help with the festival.

Your Board is working for you to fulfill the mission of the Chamber.  The mission of the Chamber is to promote, develop and facilitate a strong economic environment in which the business community can grow and proposer.

Blue Springs Chamber Night at the Mavericks
 
The Chamber is planning Blue Springs Chamber Night at the Mavericks for Saturday, November 14th.  The game starts at 7 p.m.  We need to have an idea of the number of people who plan to attend so that we can make reservations for our space.  Tickets are $20.  Call the office if you are planning to attend. 
 
Chamber Member News
 
Office Depot will feature Tony Stewart's Nascar on October 1st at the location at 450 NW 7 Hwy in Blue Springs from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.
 
The Princess Party, sponsored by StandUp Blue Springs, will be held on October 3rd, Noon -4:00 pm at Valley View High School, 5000 NW Valley View Rd. For more information or to purchase tickets call 816-478-4500.
 
City Church is holding their Annual Family Fun Day on October 3rd at White Oaks Shopping Center. All the actives are free.  If you are interested in having a booth to promote your business at this event the cost is $60.00 please contact the church at 816-229-9933.
 
St Mary's Medical Center invites you to a presentation, book signing & wine and cheese reception with Bill Tammeus & Rabbi Jacques Cukierkorn, authors of They Were Just People.  The book tells tales of people who risked their live to save Jews from the Holocaust.  The event is on Thursday October 8th from 4 - 6 p.m.  For more information Call 816-655-5363. 
 
Dynamic Connections Chapter of ABWA
will present speaker Linda Steele who will discuss Telling Success Stories on Thursday October 8th at 5:30 pm at the Bass Pro Shop on 40 Hwy in Independence.

A Halloween Bash at  Lunar Bowl is scheduled for October 31 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be free candy, $2.50 games, $1.50 shoes, $1.00 hotdogs and $3.00 hotdog meals. 
 
KC Sports Lodge Grand Re-Opening & Halloween Block Party, October 31, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, fun and great giveaways for the whole family.
 
 
Congratulations to Hy-Vee employee Barbara Wade for winning the 2009 Legendary Customer Service Award.  This award is given to only nine people each year.
 
 
 40th Annual Fall Fun Festival
  
The Fall Fun Fest was held September 18, 19 and 20th in Downtown Blue Springs.  The weather was beautiful, people had fun and business was good.  A big thank you to Bill Fickle (Side Pockets) and Alex Hnatyshyn (Liberty Mutual) for serving as co-chairs for this event.  Thanks also to ALL the wonderful volunteers who helped make this Fall Fun Fest a successful and fun event.  We could not have done it without you!
