Food for the Body... Food for the Soul
Two events coming to Gravatt this spring
Gravatt will host a Lenten retreat on March 13 and 14. The retreat them e centers on remaining present in body, mind, and spirit throughout your walk with Christ. Participants will experience 24 hours of self reflection through yoga for the body, prayer and meditation for the mind, and creative self-expression for the spirit.
Retreat facilitators are Mary How and Jemme Stewart. Mary is an artist, art therapist, and managing partner of Angelfish Creations. Jemme is a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric mental health, a licensed professional counselor with her own private practice, and a yoga instructor at City Yoga in Columbia. Registration materials are available online.

Once your soul is fed, come on back to Gravatt on May 15 for The Big Delicious Event. Chef Brandon Velie, head chef and owner of Juniper in Ridge Spring, and Farmer John Oxner, owner of Big Moon Farm, will lead presentations on how to enjoy locally grown and produced foods. Participants will enjoy a 3-course-meal and are invited to spend the night if they choose. Registration for this event will be available soon.

| Under the Tent exceeds expectations
On Friday, October 22 over 250 Friends of Gravatt gathered at our first (now we are sure it will be annual) Under the Tent event. The evening featured delicious food (mmm Shrimp and Grits and sweet potato fries!) and lots of dancing to the great sounds of Heart 'n Soul Band, plus an impressive silent and live auction.
The auction was a huge success. A Gravatt t-shirt quilt made by Sue Von Rautenkranz and a quilt made by the youth of the Midlands Convocation caused bidding wars, and the Bishop Andrew Waldo came away with a string of pearls for his lovely wife, Mary. Thanks to the Rev. Blaney Pridgen for driving the price up on that one! Sixty-five flashy rings and glasses of champagne were sold in the Bubbles and Baubles game, and one very lucky lady walked away with a beautiful citrine ring (it helped that she and her husband bought five glasses and sparkly rings!).
Thanks to the countless hours put in by Event Chair Christine Koutrakos and Auction Chair Diana Cannon and their committee members, Gravatt surpassed our fundraising goal for the evening and raised over $18,500 for camper scholarships, program development and facility improvements. Gravatt would also like to extend our deepest thanks to all of the donors, guests, and volunteers who made this amazing evening possible. Check out our website for a complete list.
Join us next year for the Second Annual Under the Tent-date and location to be announced. Look for information on our website about our contest for event logo design. You could win yourself cash and tickets to the even. Work has already begun for next year's event. Please contact Christine Koutrakos if you wold like to help. |
