Why "Church" Camp? Why Camp Gravatt?
In this day and age, parents and kids have to make difficult
choices about how they will spend their summers. The reality is that most
people do not have the time or financial resources to do it all. There are a
lot of options out there-basketball camp, football camp, cheer leading camp,
computer camp, arts camp. And church camp, like Camp Gravatt.
Camp Gravatt offers boys and girls from first through twelfth
grade a Christian-centered, community-based summer camp experience, focused on demonstrating
God's unconditional love to every camper.
The Camp Gravatt program and activities vary by session,
depending upon each age group, and include most of the traditional things
associated with camp--archery, arts and crafts, canoeing, nature, time to play
and swim in the lake, challenge course events, campfires, songs, skits, as well
as time for worshiping and developing camp community.
For all activities, the philosophy at Camp Gravatt is to provide
a fun, rewarding experience for each camper. Camp Gravatt staff members work to
nurture and develop campers' self-esteem, rather than their competitive
expertise in a particular sport or skill. The goals of the camp experience are
for campers to grow spiritually, make friends, share in an affirming, Christian
camp community, and have a lot of fun in a safe and healthy outdoor
environment.
As we make our rounds talking to families about why they should
consider Camp Gravatt as a priority for their summer, the one thing that comes
up over and over is this. It's not likely that your child will grow up to be a
professional football or basketball player. And at age 50, it's unlikely
they'll still be cheering at the game. But we know for many parents, it is your
strong desire that years from now your children will be living a life of faith
in Christ. Camp Gravatt is a place that helps build the foundation for that
life. Certainly, it's not a replacement for regular worship, but it is a place
that gives young people an understanding and appreciation for the faith the
church proclaims, a place where they can see what it means to live in Christian
community, a place where they can feel the love of God in the warmth of new
friends and counselors who care and nurture them.
We can't wait for summer! And we sure hope your child will be a
part of the community this summer at Camp Gravatt. Register
today!

Bassmaster Fishing Tournament
Join us on July 31, 2010 for fun, fellowship, and fishing at the 1st Annual Gravatt BassmastersFishing Tournament. Proceeds from this tournament will benefit camper scholarships and the Gravatt Environmental Education Program.
This catch and release tournament is family friendly so take this opportunity to share to the outdoors with youth you care about. Your two-person team can choose to fish from the bank, from a Gravatt canoe, or you may bring your own canoe boat (trolling motors only). Awards will given to the overall team winner, individual overall winner, biggest fish, and smallest fish. We have already received confirmation of prizes from great companies like Red Bone Alley, Mountain Khakis, and Coast Apparel. Learn more... |
