To our valued customers and friends,
I'm sure that many of you are aware of the current controversy surrounding the Fresh Market relocating to the newly approved Courthouse Commons strip mall. Few of you are aware of the impact that it has had on me personally, as well as our business here at Kinks, Quirks & Caffeine.
Over the last four years, The Fresh Market has been threatening to leave Colony Square Shopping Center. In the beginning, they tried to force Kinks, Quirks & Caffeine out of our space with nowhere to go and no compensation for the related moving expenses. I was willing to work with them, but the problem was, that at that time, there wasn't a suitable location to move Kinks, Quirks & Caffeine. When I did find a comparable location within the same shopping center, I contacted the Fresh Market Corporate office. At that time I was informed that "they appreciated my willingness to cooperate, but they were no longer interested in expanding in this shopping center".
Now, I am left in a seemingly dead-end situation that may force me to close this store. I have made a minimum of four requests to the Colony Square landlord to discuss a buyout option, but he has been, and continues to be unwilling to work with me. All of my requests have all been denied without consideration.
My business doesn't generate the tax revenue that larger stores do. But, I live here. I own property here. I support other local businesses on a daily basis. I matter...and I believe that I (and my business) add value to the community. I have been very supportive of many community organizations and charitable causes. Now I am asking for your support. Immediate action is needed. Please take a moment and review the article here or write into the last word at lastword@vagazette.com and show your support for our beloved store.
Without immediate, strong support from our community, customers, and friends, we will not be able to continue to thrive in this environment.
I appreciate the kind thoughts expressed and the ongoing support from you, our extremely loyal customers...and friends. I hope that we can be around for years to come to give the Williamsburg community a smile :-).
All my best,
