First semester report cards

We have received positive feedback about Net Classroom from parents and students. One of the features of Net Classroom is the availability of report cards being online. As you will see, students' first semester report cards are now available online through Net Classroom. You and your student can access and print report cards by logging onto Net Classroom and, under the grades tab, you will see a link to the student's report card. If you have questions that relate to your username/password, you can email your questions to netclassroom@lancastermennonite.org.

Honor Roll

In the near future, the second quarter high school honor roll will be posted on our website. To be named to the honor roll, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. We celebrate many students who qualify for this past quarter's honor roll.

Course selection for 2012-13

The course selection process for the 2012-13 school year is underway in Advisory Groups. Advisory Group Leaders are working with students to complete the course selection form and update the Personalized Education Plan. Parents are also encouraged to work with their students, while contacting current teachers, advisory group leaders and their school counselor, if needed. These forms will need to be signed by parents and given back to the student's advisory group leader by mid-February.

Student Support Team (SST)

The Student Support Team process provides a strategy for intervening if a student has major difficulty succeeding in the academic program. An SST meeting may include teachers who are core team members and the student's classroom teachers, along with the student and parent(s). The team reviews the student's goals and the factors which seem to be preventing success and then plans strategies for addressing the student's situation. Parents or students may request a meeting by contacting Mrs. Lehman or the student's counselor.

Career Assessments

LMH students have the opportunity to take career assessments. Classes such as Individual and Family Studies are among the classes that give students the opportunity to take career assessments, as well as sophomore Advisory Groups. Advisory Groups in grades 9-10 will also soon be studying sections of the book, What Color is Your Parachute?, which will explore career possibilities and provide resources to evaluate their gifts and abilities. Students are welcome at any time to log onto Career Cruising (careercruising.com, user name: lmhs; password: careers) where there is excellent career information.

SAT & ACT Preparation

The best way to prepare for the SAT & ACT tests is to take rigorous courses in high school, read and write extensively and become familiar with the tests by practicing on the available sample tests. Free resources for SAT preparation are available on the College Board website at www.collegeboard.com. This site has daily practice questions, a full SAT online prep course and other resources available to purchase. Similar information is available for the ACT test at www.act.org.

SAT & ACT Registration

College bound students are encouraged to take the SAT or ACT tests in the spring of their junior year and again in the fall of their senior year. For registration and testing dates for the SAT and ACT, please visit  www.collegeboard.com/sat or www.act.org.

Learning Support students interested in the SAT or ACT

Students currently receiving services through the high school Learning Support Center who are interested in taking the SAT or ACT college entrance exam should contact the learning support staff to begin the application process.

NCAA clearinghouse for high school athletes

In order to potentially play and participate in athletics in a Division 1 or Division 2 college or university, high school student athletes must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse and make sure their high school course selection meets NCAA initial-eligibility standards. Students are encouraged to see the NCAA memo for registration steps; they can download the worksheets from the NCAA website. Students can also see their school counselor for a packet of NCAA information.

Senior Presentations

Seniors are currently presenting their informal presentations in their Wednesday morning Advisory Group. Next month, seniors will be giving their required, formal senior presentation on March 5, 20 or 29. Please check with your senior to see when their formal presentation is scheduled. This will be a wonderful time of celebration as seniors share their 20-minute presentation with their family, friends, teachers, classmates, friends from church and work, coaches and others who have had a meaningful impact on them throughout high school.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Second semester parent/teacher conferences for high school students are scheduled for Thursday, March 1. These 10-minute conferences can be scheduled by emailing Mrs. Horst in the high school office at horstcl@lancastermennonite.org. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Horst with the best times for you to meet and the teachers that you desire to meet with, and she will work at developing a schedule that is convenient for both you and your student's teachers. Conferences are available from 1-7 p.m.

Possible SAT Prep Course

There is the possibility that an SAT Prep Course by Abbey Harris from the SAT Prep Co. will be offered each Tuesday evening,6-8 p.m., from February 14 to May 1 on the Lancaster Campus. The cost of $500 covers a book fee, materials and diagnostic tests. We need at least 10 students for this course to run. We currently have a few students signed up and we are looking for a few more to reach the goal of 10. If you have specific questions about the course, please contact the course instructor, Abbey Harris, at abbeyharris@comcast.net. Students who are interested in signing up should contact Mr. Benner at bennerkr@lancastermennonite.org. The deadline to sign up for the course is Friday, February 10.
