Report Cards

Students' fourth quarter report cards will be mailed in mid-June. Included with the report card for all 2011-12 juniors will be a health and physical form that must be completed and returned by the beginning of school in August. This physical is required by the state of Pennsylvania.

College Visitations

Students going into grades 11 & 12 next year are reminded that summer is a great time for parents and students to visit colleges and universities. A college admissions representative from each campus will be able to help facilitate a successful college visit. This school year over 40 colleges, universities and tech schools visited Lancaster Mennonite, and we anticipate a large number of college representatives visiting our campus again next year.

Final Transcript Requests

College-bound seniors should ask to have their final transcript sent to the college they are planning to attend this fall. Final transcripts are not sent automatically, so seniors need to complete a yellow final transcript request form from the guidance office. Final transcripts will be mailed in late June with final grades, GPA included. Parents are reminded that all accounts must be fully paid in order for transcripts to be sent.

Summer School

Students who fail courses throughout the year should strongly consider making them up in the summer school program at local public schools or register to take them again next school year. A number of local high schools offer summer school programs, and parents are encouraged to contact these schools for more information. Students and parents should also communicate their summer schooling plans with their school counselor to make sure their plans meet course requirements.

College and Career Fair for Juniors

The guidance team is currently planning a college and career fair for next year's junior class which will take place late in the fall semester. This will expose juniors to various career possibilities and college/tech school opportunities. In addition, speakers will discuss college financial aid, the college admissions process, and work-related skills. We are looking forward to this day; students and parents will receive more information in the fall.

Counselors' Summer Schedules

During the summer, school counselors will be in their office a limited amount of time. Students or families needing to communicate with counselors over the summer may email them at the following addresses:

If students and/or parents need to meet with a counselor, they may send an email to find out what days they will be in the office. Mrs. Grosh, guidance administrative assistant, will be available at 299-0436, ext. 315.

What's the difference between the SAT & ACT tests?

Education Planner's website states, "If you have the choice to take either the SAT or the ACT, based on the requirements of the schools you wish to apply to, which should you take? How do you choose? Depending on your strengths and weaknesses, you may perform better on one test than the other." To help answer these questions and to see a comparison chart, check out Education Planner's site. a

Final Test Dates

The final testing dates for the SAT and ACT for the 2010-11 school year are:

  • SAT - June 4 (registration by May 6 at www.collegeboard.com)
  • ACT - June 11 (registration by May 6 at www.actstudent.org)
  • There will be several fall testing dates for both the SAT and ACT for the 2011-12 school year. For more information, check out the sites mentioned here later this summer.

Miscellaneous Guidance Notes

  • During the first two weeks in May, there will be over 100 students taking College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) exams on campus in several different subject areas. Typically when students score a 3 or higher out of 5 on an AP test, they could receive college credit.
  • Guidance staff is working to prepare next year's master schedule and student schedules. Since we continue making schedule adjustments throughout the summer, 2011-12 student schedules will be mailed to students in August.
  • Students who took LMH courses for HACC credit will need to arrange with HACC for this credit to be transferred to the college they attend. HACC charges $3.00 for each transcript request.
  • The website team is currently working on updating the  guidance section of the LMS website to include more resources in a more user-friendly format. Parents and students will be notified when the updated pages are available.
