Welcome to August in Osage County, Oklahoma!

Greetings!

Wow, we couldn't be more excited!! With the help of an incredible cast of actors, we are about to bring the Hudson Valley premiere of Tracy Letts' powerful prize-winning play, August: Osage County, to Unison Arts for four dynamic performances! Variety describes this play as a "very juicy...epic evening...( a) richly entertaining dysfunctional-family juggles the hilarious, the poignant and the appalling on a scale seldom seen."

Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, Tracy Letts'

August: Osage County is a grand, gripping new play that tells the story of the Westons, a large extended clan that comes together at their Oklahoma home when the patriarch disappears. Forced to confront unspoken truths and astonishing secrets, the family must also contend with Violet, a pill-popping, deeply unsettled woman at the center of this storm.

Time Magazine named it the "#1 Show of the Year!" Don't miss this powerful production, a tale filled with unforgettable characters and told with unflinching honesty.

Then in April, we will be producing Theresa Rebeck's "pulverizingly funny" The Understudy. Theresa Rebeck is the author of our last season's closing production, Mauritius.

And rounding out our season in June, we will bring you another classic of the American stage, Edward Albee's award-winning, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Here's your official invitation to drinks with George and Martha.

In the meantime, buckle your seat belt and plan to spend an evening with the Weston family at 8 PM on Friday and Saturday, March 18, 19 & 25, 26 at Unison Arts Center.

Hope to see you there!

The Understudy understudy

byTheresa Rebeck

Sponsored by Pileggi Construction
and Chronogram Magazine

"PULVERIZINGLY FUNNY!!" - The Wall Street Journal
"A RAZOR-SHARP COMEDY." - Entertainment Weekly
"FUNNY, PUNCHY and CLEVER!" - Variety

A smash hit Off-Broadway,  The Understudy is the latest comedy from Pulitzer Prize nominee Theresa Rebeck (Mauritius), one of the most produced female playwrights in America.

When a smug Hollywood action star lands a prestigious role in Franz Kafka's newly discovered play on Broadway, things couldn't be better...until he meets his understudy.  The most thankless job in theatre takes center stage in Theresa Rebeck's bitingly funny new look at the underbelly of the acting world. Through the course of a dress rehearsal, we glimpse all the genius, bitterness and ridiculousness that underscore a life in showbiz. Spirited and laugh-out-loud funny, The Understudy places the backstage friction of a frenzied rehearsal center stage with vivacious satire and Kafkaesque theatrics.

"A masterpiece of comic clockwork, raucously funny!"

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf vwoolf

by Edward Albee

Winner of the 1963 Tony Award for Best Play
and
New York Drama Critics' Circle
 Award for Best Play.

You're invited for drinks with George and Martha.

As wickedly hilarious today as when it first shocked audiences, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is an ingeniously funny play that packs a helluva wallop. What starts as verbal sparring at an impromptu cocktail party, devolves into a no-holds-barred battle of wits and wills.

With brilliant writing and some of the greatest characters ever created for the stage, Albee set a new standard for American theater with this sharp, vicious Molotov cocktail of a play.

One of the landmark plays of the twentieth century, Edward Albee's masterpiece tells the story of George and Martha, an aging history professor and his razor-tongued wife who have returned home from another tedious faculty event at a small New England college. But the night is far from over. Martha has invited a young professor and his mousey wife for late-night cocktails and parlor conversation. By dawn, no one remains unscathed.
