Greetings!
In 2002 MMSC presented the Hudson Valley premiere of the highly acclaimed play The Laramie Project. On November 5 & 6, we are once again proud to bring the Hudson Valley premiere of The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later to the stage at Unison Arts Center.
The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later, written by the same authors of The Laramie Project, is a compelling and groundbreaking epilogue to the original piece. The text focuses on the long-term effects of the murder of Matthew Shepard on the town of Laramie. It explores how the town has changed and how the murder continues to reverberate in the community. The play also includes new interviews with Matthew's mother Judy Shepard and Mathew's murderers Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney, both serving two consecutive life sentences. The writers also conducted many follow-up interviews Laramie residents from the original piece, including, Romaine Patterson, Reggie Fluty, Jedediah Shultz, Father Roger Schmidt, Jonas Slonaker, Beth Loffreda and others.
"The Tectonic Theater Project set out to find out how Laramie had changed in the ten years since the murder. When we arrived, we were forced to confront the question, 'How do you measure change in a community?' said Moises Kaufman, Artistic Director of Tectonic Theater Project. "We found the people of Laramie still fighting to own their own history, their own identity, their own story, and part of that is shaped by how they understand what happened that night to Matthew," continued company member Leigh Fondakowski. "It's a fallacy to try to define Laramie the way one would describe an individual. There are 27,000 people in Laramie. There are at least 27,000 Laramies." -Moiss Kaufman, creator of The Laramie Project Directed by Christine Crawfis Featuring Rich Hack, Thom Webb, Michael Frohnhoefer, Guy Anthony, Laurence Carr, Zsuzsa Manna, Terri Brockmann, and Molly Parker-Myers. Co-produced by Auerbach & Company, Mayo Consulting, and Hudson Real American Whiskeys Friday and Saturday, November 5 & 6 at 8 PM Unison Arts Center, New Paltz More information or Save A Seat!
