Greetings!
Enough of these February snow storms. We are grateful, here in NY's Hudson Valley, not to live in this year's "snow belt" and we send our condolences to our old MMSC friend, Nan Alderson, who moved to Philadelphia a couple of years ago. She thought she was leaving behind the worst of the winter weather; now she is wishing she had her old snow blower back! Anyway, our MMSC Encore Series is almost over for another year! And our spring/summer season is about to begin. As we wish to move ahead into spring, we take note that rehearsals have already begun for our regional premiere of Opus, coming up at the end of March. Michael Hollinger's Opus has been billed as "Sex, drugs, and chamber music!" by Charles Isherwood of the New York Times. According to TCG's American Theatre magazine, Opus was one of the top ten most performed plays at Regional Theatres in 2009. We can't wait! Next up, on Friday and Saturday, February 26 & 27, a hilarious encore from our recent summer 2009 Season, Kimberly Akimbo, by the Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. If you missed Kimberly last June, don't let the opportunity pass you by again. And a final note: the play which won David Lindsay-Abaire (playwright for Kimberly Akimbo) his Pulitzer Prize is Rabbit Hole. And MMSC's own Christine Crawfis has directed a fine production of it currently on view in Wappinger's Falls. See note below. Bob And all of the good folks at MMSC |
Encore # 3 Kimberly Akimbo
by David Lindsay-Abaire
Friday and Saturday, February 26 & 27
"Kimberly Akimbo is at once a shrewd satire, a black comedy and a heartbreaking study of how time wounds everyone." Ben Brantley, NY Times
Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, this is a hilarious and
heartrending play about a teenager who is aging at 4 1/2 times the
normal human. Directed by Christine Crawfis Featuring Michael Frohnhoefer, Janet Nurre, Elizabeth Barrows, Kai Beck and Barbara McMahon Scanlan as Kimberly.

For your consideration...
Also by David Lindsay-Abaire
Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire
Directed by MMSC's Christine Crawfis
Winner of the 2007
Pulitzer Prize for drama, Rabbit Hole is the brilliant and critically
acclaimed new play about heartbreak, the complexity of forgiveness and
the paradox of finding a new "normal." Becca and Howie have
everything a family could want, until a life-shattering accident turns
their world upside down. Using equal doses of humor and candor,
this surprisingly humorous story is a refreshingly honest look at
domestic tragedy and the healing power of love and family . . . a
life-affirming testament to the endurance of the human heart.
The cast includes MMSC favorites Janet Nurre (Izzy) and Julie Eads Woolley (Nat) as well as Mary Beth Boylan (Becca), Jonathan Guagenti (Jason),
and Rich Hack (Howie).
MMSC's own Christine Crawfis directs. She
states "Rabbit Hole is an extraordinary play that allows the audience
to peek into the emotions of the characters. We accompany them as
they struggle to put their lives back together. Along the way, the
playwright provokes us to feel, to think, and - yes, to laugh. It's a
real play, without gimmicks or trickery; it is as honest as if you
were a fly on the wall of Becca and Howie's house."
Final performances will be February 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 8
p.m. and February 14 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12
for seniors/children under 12. Call the Box Office at 845-298-1491
for reservations OR order your tickets online at

And in March, we are excited to present the regional premiere of

OPUS
By
Michael Hollinger
Directed by Christine Crawfis Featuring Michael Frohnhoefer, David Mossey, Thom Webb, Gerry Brooks and Janet Nurre
In
a world where characters are instruments and scenes are movements, a
world-class, high-strung string quartet prepares for their highest-profile
performance ever. As musical ambitions collide with personal dynamics,
their rehearsal room becomes a pressure cooker and their world begins to fall
apart. Passions rise, personalities clash, and the players are forced to
confront the ephemeral nature of their life's work.
"Sex, drugs, and chamber music!"
"...marked by a nuanced intelligence in its depiction of the
complex relationship between musician's lives and their art."
- Charles Isherwood, New York Times
