 NEXT WEEKEND!
The Final Show In MMSC's 15th Anniversary Season
Kimberly Akimbo by David Lindsay-Abaire
Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, this is a hilarious and heartrending play about a teenager with a rare condition causing her body to age faster than it should. When she and her family flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, Kimberly is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love.

Sweet 16 (almost) & Never Been Kissed?
Spring, 1994: Schindler's List won 7 Oscars, The Church of England ordained it's first female priests, Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as South Africa's first black president, Barack Obama was teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago, and group of New Paltz actors (soon to be christened Mohonk Mountain Stage Company) was in a van headed to BAM (that's Brooklyn Academy of Music) with its very first production, Androcles and the Lion.
They liked us at BAM and so here we are, 15 years later, still chugging along (without the van), still supported by our fantastic group of actors who are also our neighbors, still doing what we care passionately about: providing our audiences with unique performances of drama, literature and poetry which are not available elsewhere in the Mid-Hudson Valley.
This coming weekend we will complete our fifteenth year with our reader's production of David Lindsay-Abaire's Kimberly Akimbo, a play about an extraordinary 16 year old girl who is aging at 4 and a half times the normal rate, a very funny, eye-opening experience.
Now, as the peas are coming in, the tomatoes are stretching their roots and the grass is calling to be mowed (again), we are beginning, margaritas in hand, to plan next season, our 16th.
But we could not end this celebratory 15th season without thanking our wonderful and selfless actors and you, our loyal, curious, and adventuresome audience who have been open-minded and accepting of our sometimes odd and challenging choices,
So, pick the peas, fertilize the tomatoes, enjoy the margaritas', and come back and see us in the fall.
Have a very groovy summer,
Wishing you well, Bob And all the good folks at MMSC
PS. Special request: Some very good friends of ours (Mark and Jolee) will be spending next year in Turkey and need to find a temporary home for Nala, their senior German Sheppard. They will cover all expenses (I have known Mark for 45 years. Trust me, he's good for it). Nala has sent a picture and a personal message, which we have included in this newsletter. If you can provide a home for Nala over the winter, or if you need more information, please get in touch with them or with me. Mark and Jolee thank you, Nala thanks you, and I thank you.

Nala's Conundrum
Hi, my name is Nala. I'm a retired 13 year old female German Shepherd who needs a home for the next year starting in late July or early August.
Here's my story.
I'm originally from Denmark (where they breed the most gorgeous shepherds, if I must say so myself). I emigrated to the United States and then took an early retirement. I'm easy going, like children and all people really, and can even learn to get along with other pets, as long as they recognize that I rule the roost.
This past year I lived with a couple of cats and even a dog for a while. I'm in pretty good shape for my age, although I have put on a few pounds that I need to shed. Like a lot of critters my age, I have some arthritis that makes it a little difficult to go up stairs. I like staying in my crate at night and when my family is away from home. I need a moderate amount of exercise to stay in shape. My favorite composer is Schubert and my favorite snack is a carrot. Then I'm happy as a clam.
See, the family that adopted me 6 years ago will be spending the coming year in Turkey, so if you can help us out by taking me in for the year, I would be one happy senior dog. My family will pay all of my food, vet and kenneling expenses. You can email Mark and Jolee at palomablanca@earthlink.net and they can answer all of your questions. Thanks.
That's:
