SurveylogoHere are a few responses from our recent audience survey. We'll bring you more in the weeks to come. Thanks to all who took the survey and told us your story!

Q: How long have you been attending MMSC performances?
A: 1-3 years (11%), 3-5 years (20%), 5-10 years (28%), 10+ years (22%).

Q: How often do you read the on-line newsletter?
A: Everytime (69%), Most often (25%)

Q: Tell us what were your favorite MMSC performances.

"Sylvia the dog.  It is perhaps the funniest thing I have ever seen.  I saw it twice and laughed even more the second time.  It doesn't hurt that I have become a dog-lover after getting my first dog 6 years ago."

"Last week's Darwin in Malibu was one of the most informative, provocative and professional theater pieces I've EVER seen!  I also loved Indian Blood, Amadeus and all the annual Christmas shows.  Feel free to quote me."

Q: Give us a few suggestions for future MMSC performances.
A: "The Foreigner, Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead, The Real Thing and Lady's Not for Burning."

Stay tuned. There will be more survey responses in future issues of Prologue.

Come to the COLD BUFFET, old chum!
Greetings!

It's October and MMSC's 15th Anniversary Celebration continues with two exceptional programs.

On Saturday (October 18th) we bring back a true MMSC Favorite. In your recent responses to our audience survey, you told us that COLD BUFFET was one of your favorites from past MMSC programs. Well, here's your chance to challenge our actors once again. See you on Saturday?

Then, at the end of October, we are proud to present the Hudson Valley premiere of John Patrick Shanley's powerful Doubt, a parable. Combine a Pulitzer Prize, a Best Play Tony Award and a New York Drama Critics Award for Best Play and you have a theatrical experience not to be missed. Add in direction by MMSC's Producing Director, Robert Miller,  a cast featuring MMSC favorites Christine Crawfis and Janet Nurre as well as MMSC newcomers Eric Tull and Nicole Quinn and what more can we say?

Also - in responses to our survey, we were asked for more information on your MMSC favorite actors and more news about MMSC's other projects. We'll bring those to you in future issues of Prologue. We start in this issue with MMSC On The Road and Happy Natal Day.

Read on.
Next Up In October
The Fifth Whenever We Feel Like It Cold Buffet
Cold Buffet Hat Our previous Cold Buffets were so much fun that we have decided to mount still another "rematch."

Can you take up Challenge V ?

In the great tradition of Antiques Roadshow and Survivor, our pledge to our audience is to assemble a group of our finest readers on one single evening and our challenge to our audience is to bring in a favored piece of reading material for these talented folks to read "cold" on that night.

Favorite moments from previous Cold Buffets include Don Wildy reading from Fox in Sox, Ron Schade reading the section on "Persistent Coughing" from the Home Medical Encyclopedia, Richard Cattabiani and Bruce Pileggi reading Abbott and Costello's classic "Who's On First" , Janet Nurre and Jack Kroll reading He Said/She Heard and the whole gang reading hilarious Church Bulletin Bloopers.

Whether serious or hilariously funny, MMSC's Cold Buffet evenings are always a big hit with audiences and actors alike. Come one, come all. No muss. No fuss. Bring your favorite poem, a treasured sonnet or just a page from the Yellow Pages.

You bring 'em. We read 'em.
(That's the MMSC Cold Buffet motto. Put us to the test.)

Saturday, October 18 @ 8 PM

Doubt, a parable
by John Patrick Shanley
Co-sponsored by
Mayo Consulting.

Winner of The Pulitzer Prize, a Tony and the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Play, Doubt is one of the most lauded American dramas in years. Playwright John Patrick Shanley penned the Academy Award-winning film "Moonstruck," but Doubt is the triumph of his career, turning headline material into deeply moving and gripping mystery, a quiet indictment of the reverence for righteousness in American culture.

1964. Sister Aloysius, the fierce principal of a Catholic school, has a hunch that the only black student in the school may be in danger. Father Flynn, a devout priest determined to bring a revolutionary gust of fresh air to teaching, may be the danger - or he may be the boy's only friend.

This is that rare play you won't stop debating about for days, where no matter how unshakable your interpretation may be, your most trusted companion may very well come to a different conclusion.

According to playwright John Patrick Shanley, Doubt is a play about "our American culture of extreme advocacy, of confrontation, of judgment and of verdict." Rest assured, Shanley is not a propagandist: "I started the play thinking about black and white and the certainty that this implies. But it wouldn't make much sense if there was no doubt in a play called Doubt." The genius of this brilliant play is that the audience renders the final verdict.

Directed by Robert Miller
Featuring Christine Crawfis, Janet Nurre, and MMSC newcomers Eric Tull and Nicole Quinn.
