Small Business Spotlight
Created Just For You Services, Inc.

Jennifer Frazier started meeting with the IL SBDC at Waubonsee several years ago to explore various business options that would draw on her lifelong passion for helping other people overcome adversity.  After investigating several ideas, she recently launched Created Just For You Services, Inc, which, true to its name, offers many tailored programs to fit the needs of her clients.

Empowerment is the driving force behind Created Just For You Services. Equipped with a BA in Psychology from Northwestern University, a MS in Human Services Management from Spertus Institute, and a career background in case management, Jennifer built her business with the goal of helping at-risk parents and kids succeed, despite life's challenges.
Even in the course of running her business, Jennifer is accomplishing that mission.  This summer, Jennifer registered with Put Illinois to Work, and was able to hire and train a college student to help her get her business off the ground.

Jennifer contracts with organizations such as Catholic Charities and Illinois Mentors to provide programs such as a Jump Start Program for new parents, as well as Mothers and Fathers Moving Forward - one-on-one parent coaching services for parents who have lost or are in danger of losing their children.  Created Just For You Services was recently featured in the Aurora Beacon News.

On November 8, from 8 - 4:30, Created Just For You Services will sponsor a Cultural Diversity & Sensitivity Awareness Conference at the Best Western Timber Creek Convention Center in Sandwich.  For more information on Created Just For You Services, and the convention, visit Jennifer's web site.

K.I.S.S. - 10 Ways to Succeed

Keep it simple. It's a common piece of advice, but following this recommendation can be more difficult than it sounds. Too often we get hung up on the daily grind, filled with infinite details and procedures, all the while losing sight of the simple, obvious things that are essential for success.

How To Work Better and Demonstrate Strength are two great "10" lists for those of you who tend to overcomplicate things.  Don't be fooled!  Simple things work - sometimes way better than more complicated alternatives.  To keep you focused, print and post these lists - then apply them to all your business transactions.

Small Business Jobs and Credit Act - What it Means to You

If you are a small business owner waiting for answers to your credit concerns, you have probably seen the announcements about passage of the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act.  Here's what you need to know:

First, regardless of the particulars of this program, you still have to have good credit, solid cash flow and sufficient collateral to get a small business loan.  Expect it to take some time until we know how and if lenders will incorporate this new program into their lending practices.  While you are waiting, talk to your accountant about the tax benefits that are available immediately through the program.  These benefits are highlighted in a recent Daily Herald article.

If you are confused about the apparent contradiction between bank bailouts and new loan programs, and the challenges obtaining financing for your business, check out this recent article about the money supply in The Business Ledger.
