Sometimes you'll hear a business owner say, "This would be a great business if I didn't have to deal with employees." (Sometimes they're serious.)
Many business owners see themselves as great technicians or experts who are willing to go only so far as to tolerate their teams.
The problem is that team members who are not invited into the corporate vision and/or motivated by it produce at about half their potential. They sense the disconnect from management. So they come to work and get through the day doing as little as possible.
What Can You Do?
Be alert to the fact that the most important role of any business owner or manager is to find the right people and to create an environment where they are permitted and encouraged to do the work of superior people.
Average people are much easier to find than superior people, and they're much less expensive to hire.
When you have managers that can find the right "average" people and create the environment where they perform as superior teammates, those managers are worth their weight in gold.
