NEW IN 2011?
Women of Isaiah will host 2 brunches to welcome women who became new members of WOI or Temple Isaiah in 2011. We look forward to an opportunity to nosh, schmooze and provide an opportunity for new members to meet each other.
The first brunch will be Sunday, January 22 from 9:30 to 10:30 and 11:15 to 12:15 in the Beit Knesset at Temple Isaiah.
There will also be a new member brunch on Thursday, January 26 from 10:30 to noon at the home of Lynn Epstein, 16 La Plaza, Orinda.
Children are welcome at both events.

Contemporary Jewish Museum - Houdini: Art and Magic - Docent Tour
Thursday, January 12, 2012 11:00am-4:00pm
The Contemporary Jewish Museum presents the first major exhibition to examine Houdini's life, legend, and enduring cultural influence. Houdini: Art and Magic includes more than 160 objects including magic apparatus, a re-creation of the famous Water Torture Cell, historic photographs, dramatic art nouveau-era posters, theater ephemera, and archival and silent films that allow visitors to fully explore the career and legacy of the celebrated entertainer. Docent tour of the exhibition from 1:30-2:30pm and time to see the rest of the museum. We will take BART to SF. The docent tour cost is $20 for adults and seniors and $10 for museum members. Lunch before on your own.

Years later, when staging a production of Hamlet, the son must confront his buried feelings about a crime that shocked the nation. Women's Torah Study January 9
|
|
|
Please join a dynamic group of women who want to study Torah texts with special emphasis on the place, roles and stories of women in our tradition. Using the Women's Torah Commentary created by the Reform Movement, we augment our learning with commentaries by a wide variety of sources and authors, including literature and poetry.
We meet at 10:30am in the Adult Lounge.
No experience necessary!
We need a minyan, 10 women, to create our group each month. Please RSVP to Nina Jones, Clergy Assistant, Ninaj@temple-isaiah.org, to let us know you will join us on January 9th. If we do not have 10 women we will send an email on the Friday afternoon preceding the scheduled session.

Briones Regional Park
Sunrise Trail to Springhill Trail Loop
This is a vigorous and steep hike with a 2-mile ascent on a long, grassy ridge. At the crest we will view Mt. Diablo and its foothills and the San Ramon Valley as well as Concord, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, and Danville.
Details: The hike begins at Springfield Road in Lafayette and takes us to the Briones Crest Trail which traverses the Crescent Ridge and Seaborg Trails. We will continue onto the Lafayette Ridge Trail which begins our steep downhill trek. At the bottom we will pick up the Springhill Trail and return to our cars.
This is a dog-friendly hike. Bring plenty of water and snacks. Hiking poles are recommended.
Meeting time: 8:30 at the bus shelter located at the lower parking lot of Temple Isaiah. We will carpool to the trailhead.

Knitting-Handiwork Group January 30

Join us January 30th at 7:00 pm in the Library for an evening of knitting and other needlework.
You can begin or complete a project, get help with any knitting/handiwork problems or offer assistance to others. Work on your knitting, needlepoint, crochet, embroidery, or any other handiwork projects. We welcome everyone from beginners to experts.
Make new friends, share knitting-handiwork news and have fun with us.
Monthly on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm usually in the Library.
