The MA Department of Environmental Protection recently released the much anticipated
Draft Solid Waste Master Plan for the next decade. The title of the document, The Pathway to Zero Waste, gives us hope that we will move away from the business-as-usual practice of burying and burning our trash to reducing, recycling and reuse technologies that will eliminate 80% of Massachusetts' solid waste.
HealthLink applauds, and critiques "The Pathway to Zero Waste" urging DEP to tighten loopholes for new incineration and to lessen the painfully long timeline of 40 years to reduce our waste 80% to 20 years. We urge you to make your voice heard by submitting comments to the DEP by September 15, 2010. Contact HealthLink for more information.
