Dear 'Links,
For the past 12 years HealthLink has worked successfully to clean our air by obtaining meaningful pollution reductions from the coal-burning Salem Harbor Power Station. To continue our work into next year we need your help now! Please consider a tax-free year-end donation as an investment in a cleaner, healthier future. Over the years, we have been a strong force in creating ground-breaking regulations for major pollutants from these plants, promoting sustainable and local energy sources, and eliminating harmful environmental toxins so that our children will have a healthier world to live and grow in.
In 2010 as significant greenhouse gas reduction requirements move forward under federal authority and reporting of mercury emissions is mandated, HealthLink will continue to represent the community's interest at both state and federal levels to protect our health, our economy, and our coastline.
Here's what we worked on in 2009:
- Established a "Plant Watch Rapid Response Team." Photos and reports are posted on our website and have prompted DEP action.
- Sponsored a local activist to get certified to read and report opacity violations.
- Setting up/funding a web camera, updated every fifteen minutes, to photo-document unusual activity and pollution from the power plant and local haze.
- Informed and energized our members to voice concern to government regulators, newspapers and community leaders.
- Publicly opposed biomass at the Salem facility.
- Provided assistance to Witness for Peace working in the coal mining region of Colombia.
- Partnered with Health Care Without Harm for sustainable practices in MA hospitals.
Help us sustain this momentum in 2010! To donate online click here, or send your contribution to: HealthLink, P.O. Box 301, Swampscott, MA 01907.
Thank you for your continued support,
All of us at HealthLink
