Meet the People Behind the Coal: Colombian Coal Union Leaders

Moderator: Avi Chomsky, a professor of Latin American studies at Salem State College, who has worked for many years to create awareness of the plight faced by the mine-affected communities in Colombia.
 
Featuring  - Estivenson Avila: President of the Sintramienergetica Union at the Drummond-owned mine of La Loma where the paramilitiary threatens those organizing for human rights.
 
Jesus Brochero: A leader of Sintracarbon, the National Union of Coal Industry Workers, which represents employees of the largest open pit coal mine in the world.
 
Learn about the plight of the indigenous mine workers who provide the coal for the Salem power plant and how union leaders are fighting for their rights, taking on some of the most powerful multinationals in the world.
