Greetings!

It's almost summer and it feels great!

Bancroft and our alumni have been busy as always.

Classes are going well and we are hearing some nice success stories from our Grads.  See the article below for Lou Ann's story!

Beverly Cuthbertson (S90EVE) called from Ogunquit, Maine the other day to let us know that she has been in business for 20 years!  Check out Your Body Works at www.spaandmassage.com

Another Grad to mention here is Allissa Haines (S03MTH) who is presenting a webinar, hosted through Compassionate Touch, on June 8th titled: Marketing with personality: Finding your voice and building relationships.  To register, go to www.compassionate-touch.org. Allissa also just celebrated the first year anniversary of her successful blog, Writing a Blue Streak.  (www.writingabluestreak.com)

The Tale of a Successful Graduate: Lou Ann Botsford
Lou Ann triathlon

When I emailed Lou Ann (S05MTH)  recently, I mentioned that "I hope all is well with you."  She responded with, "Yes all is well......and then some!"  She then went on to describe just how well!  Being in the field of massage therapy has led to wonderful adventures for her.  Lou Ann knows how to connect with people.  She went to New Zealand recently and that came about because she raised her hand to massage just one more runner at the Boston Marathon.  More on that later.

Lou Ann told me that when she was in Hawaii for a Triathlon, she saw a sign on a tree on the last leg of the bike ride that simply stated, "Love Life" and she has been doing just that.

Love Life

Let's start with the Triathlon that was in

  Kaua'I, Hawaii. It was a ½ mile swim, a 15

mile bike ride (which includes quite the

  steep climb) and a 5K run.  She talked with people she knows and they felt confident she could complete this.  The main problem was that she was quite unsure of the swim.  So she trained.  For those of you who know Lou Ann, you won't be surprised that her trainer told her to not try so hard!  She relaxed into the swim and became quite proficient.  She needed to feel confident as the swim is in the ocean.  She was full of joy when she completed the event.  [See the photo above.}

Lou Ann has also joined the Morris Dance team -Ladies of the Rolling PinOnce again a contact through her massage and teaching career. It's not a group I have heard about (see the photo) but it sure looks like they have fun.  Check out their website to learn more about them.  www.ladies-of-the-rolling-pin.org. The group went to England last August and Lou Ann dance

  danced at St Braivel's Castle

  and at the Sidmouth Folk

  Festival in Cornwall.  They

  have also danced at

  Waterfire, the Blithewold

  Mansion on May Day, the

  Arnold Arboretum in Boston on

  Mother's Day, and the

Children's Festival @ the U. Of Rhode Island.  She says it has been an adventure and great fun!

This past January Lou Ann went to New Zealand (2nd time).  When she was a student, she volunteered for the Marathon.  It was getting to be the end of the day at post-event and she figured she would massage one more runner.  This runner was quite the inspiration.  He said his goal was to complete 200 marathons!  (Note: he has since reached 196)  After asking him if she could get a photo with him, she said she would be happy to email it to him.  [Another example of how great the wide world of the internet can be!  Sending a communication to New Zealand is that easy.]  When she sent the email, she asked him about training tips.  Through the years a friendship developed to the point that Lou Ann actually went to New Zealand twice to see the country and to visit him and his family.  She had many adventures there, including rafting in Queenstown.

What is she up to now?  She is training for her 4th MS150 bike ride/fundraiser and she has a sponsor this year....Vitamin Shoppe!  This happened because she had the inspiration to ask them.  Because she presented in such a professional way, they saw the value of sponsoring her.  She is a teacher.  She is the Sports Chair for the AMTA Rhode Island Chapter.  Lou Ann is an inspiration.  Keep your eyes open, make things happen - even if you don't feel quite ready yet - you will be, and love life.

Thank you to all of the contributors to this newsletter and to all the continuing education presenters.
Sincerely,

Greg Hurd
