  • House Agriculture Committee Agrees on Cuts to Food Stamp Program
    Scissors

Late last week the House Agriculture Committee agreed on $844 million in cuts to the Food Stamp Program over 5 years. These cuts include:

    • A technical change, which limits categorical eligibility for food stamps to TANF recipients, and
    • Extending the five year legal immigrant ban to seven years.
    • We must ask our House members to abandon these changes to the Food Stamp Program; they will not only restrict access but also cause administrative problems for the Department of Social Services. House debate is expected the week of November 7th, please call your Congressperson today.

To reach your Congressperson call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-225-3121.

In order to make the process of submitting comments as easy as possible, End Hunger has a dedicated e-mail account to accept proposed changes:

Take a minute and send us your thoughts, we'll compile them and send them to USDA.

Please call Sally Mancini at (860) 560-2100 ext. 17 if you have any questions.
