Dear Friends,

2012 is off to an inspiring start with the LA art fairs and concurrent Performance and Public Art Festival hosted by the Getty underpinning an exciting contemporary art scene.

This month we welcome you to view work by Blue Tangerine Artists Chris Crossen, America Martin and Trudy Montgomery at L'Ermitage hotel in Beverly Hills. Trudy also has two new paintings on exhibit at the Winter Group Show at Gebert Gallery, 1345 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice, CA 90291 through end February.  Also don't miss Kim Frohsin's new work at SFMOMA Artist's Gallery in San Francisco.

I am beginning the new year in India as a long-held dream comes true. Even in this ancient yet rapidly modernizing land, contemporary art is revealing itself. I have been exploring the extraordinary tradition of Mathila women's folk painting from Madhurbani near the Nepalese border and this week I am attending the Delhi Art Fair, now in its fourth year.

In February I will be an artist in residence at Sanskriti Foundation in New Delhi where I plan to create a new body of work inspired by my experiences in India.

As as an artist and art advisor at Blue Tangerine Art, my aim is to make art accessible to people who really want to know about art and to help them find quality artworks at affordable prices. Please don't hesitate to contact me, or new Blue Tangerine Art advisor Kat Kaller, with your questions.

I look forward to sharing a creative 2012 with you!

Warm regards,

Trudy Montgomery

Helen Frankenthaler, Abstract Painter Who Shaped a Movement, Dies at 83

Helen Frankenthaler, the lyrically abstract painter whose technique of staining pigment into raw canvas helped shape an influential art movement in the mid-20th century and who became one of the most admired artists of her generation, died on Tuesday at her home in Darien, Conn. She was 83.

Known as a second-generation Abstract Expressionist, Ms. Frankenthaler was married during the movement's heyday to the painter Robert Motherwell, a leading first-generation member of the group. But she departed from the first generation's romantic search for the "sublime" to pursue her own path. Read more
